"If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple." ~ Jesus

This explains a lot of the occidental self loathing.

Wittgenstein: "To understand a language is to understand a way of life." Who knows what Jesus meant by that? Not the same problem as taking "hate" literally, but an equally fatal one.

I also posted this on FB. A minister friend of mine gave me the "Well, that's not really what he meant. He just wanted people to care more about Jesus."

Ain't it great how Christians can one minute say that their Bible is the undisputed word of God, then turn around and just blow it off??

It is seriously a form of cognitive dissonance - mental illness.

Obviously SO MUCH is lost in the translation of ancient texts. Thank Gawd for "Good News For Modern Man!"

christians are the most unusual and incredible mix of self-loathing and narcissistic beings.  Can't believe I used to buy into that garbage.

Every cult leader says that. How unoriginal.

I'm automatically reminded of the thought that, actually reading a bible is what turns most people away from Christianity.

If you actually read what's in a bible, it becomes quite clear that it's a plagiarized, fairy tale magic 8-ball that gives you license to do pretty much anything.

Oh, and hate yourself and everyone you love (WWJD?).

Instead of This explains a lot of the occidental self loathing, I should have said monotheistic or Abrahamic.
