FOND DU LAC, Wis. - A Wisconsin priest has God on his car but Best Buy's lawyers on his back.
Father Luke Strand at the Holy Family Parish in Fond Du Lac says he has received a cease-and-desist letter from the electronics retailer.
At issue is Strand's black Volkswagen Beetle with door stickers bearing the name "God Squad" in a logo similar to that of Best Buy's Geek Squad, a group of electronics troubleshooters.

Why did an all-powerful, all-knowing being create an ETERNAL TORTURE CHAMBER and fill it with MOST of his creation? Was that THE PLAN?
If that wasn't the plan....it raises the more worrying question (for theists).. Did God's Plan go wrong?
Why did he create a universe where he had to kill himself to save a tiny portion of it?
What is this ultimate purpose for our existence that theists are always rambling on about in their arguments for an… Continue

So, I've been pretty firm in my beliefs for a little over a year now, but despite being a sophomore in college, I do have to come back home for the summers. Ironically, my parents are pastors of their own church that is fairly fundamentalist. I of course cannot come out to them because I'm almost 100% sure that they'd disown me, and I am currently not capable of sustaining myself; however, I go back to school on Thursday and I'm very happy because this is the last week I have to be subjected to… Continue

I had a conversation earlier this evening that inspired me to write this post. Now, please bear with me. I haven't slpet much after catching a late show last night of Scott Pilgrim vs the World and so this may seem a little... is "rambly" a word? No, it's not. Rambling then. But I like "rambly". Can we all agree to use that word from now on? I hope so. Anyway, sorry, I'm being rambly.
Not too long ago I came across an article not unlike… Continue

See I need more than their beliefs to live
Make believe gods and savior speech don’t give
I need someone that I can actually feel
Someone next to me that exists actually really real
Able to walk and stay strong without giving up
Motivating me to walk along even when it’s rough
Do you know how hard that is to find
When everyone lives in the past and I’m leaving the past behind
Blind people that know it all and are quick to stall
Unable to walk but goddamn they… Continue

"...if "GOD" is Ficticious....then Why are They SO THREATENED??"
The answer is simple. I will try to relay that answer to you in a way that would be easy for you to understand.
The people who have control of the most destructive weapons on the planet, who have their finger on the button to bring on the end of the world, truly believe that there was a talking…

You ever tried to quit smoking? I have. Numerous times. Once you've gotten past the fits and irritation and the snapping at your mailman, you get into that mindset "now I'm a non-smoker". At that point, you actually start looking at the world around you as a non-smoker, too. You see people huddled around outside of their place of business, all smoking away and you think "How can they do that?" You hear reports on the news about how many people die from lung cancer ever year and you think "I'm… Continue

Burn the Koran Day
by Tommi Avicolli-Mecca, 2010-07-29
The same creepy Gainesville, Florida folks who gave us the “no homo
mayor” campaign (to protest an openly gay candidate for mayor) and who
claim that queers hate good ol’ American free speech because they “don’t
want to hear the truth about their perverted lifestyles,” will now
present “International Burn a Koran Day.” To commemorate…

Not been on Think Atheist in a while. And immediately I noticed something was different.
After I logged into my page, I noticed that the playlist I used to have on there has vanished.
The link under "my page" to "add music" also just generates a 404 error.
So I guess that means something happened all this thinking must now be done in silence. Am I correct?
Sshhh... who said that?

I'd tried many years ago to read the bible on my own on 2 separate occasions. If I remember right I think I only got as far as Noah's Ark, got frustrated with the language and stopped. Today I was graced with 2 links: one to a modernize version and another to a seemingly easier to understand online NIV bible. I've been reading the former, The Living Bible
, for 6 hours now. I've never been so interested in reading the bible until now. Boy, am I sure glad… Continue

Note: My mother-in-law asked me to copy some disks by the self-help guru/mystic/faith healer/supernatural freak Caroline Myss. I said that I would if I had a chance to present evidence for the other side (rational thought). This is the letter that was included in this little "care package". I also included a disk that contained three Penn and Teller episodes, some demonstrations on cold reading and various James Randi videos. The audience consists of several… Continue

I wrote this poem on 1-5-04. I was still a "believer" in the Christian "God" at that time.
I am evil
No good to people
Sin and awe
Worthless and flawed
This bible is now cold
No love and no hold
There is love in the sky
Impersonal to you and I
I can't keep these standards
I can't pray to you from a far
People are here
My feelings are near
Tears and fears
Sell out like beers
But you are away
I have to do exactly as you… Continue

When asked why I don't believe in a god, the best explanation I've been able to come up with is to point out how we are constantly learning how the universe works and none of the discoveries of the last century has been that there is a supernatural being waving a magic wand. I explain that since the bible was written all those years ago, man has… Continue

What happens when we die? Well I've thought over this one a few times and the conclusion is always the same. I am not afraid of the conclusion I reach.
