Atheist Themed Tattoos?

Hey guys I'm curious as to what you guys think regarding  atheist themed tattoos or tattoos in general. Here is an idea I'm working on tattoo.jpg. Any input would be helpful. And before you say you shouldn't care what other people think about your tattoo.. I don't, but its nice to see other peoples viewpoints on things sometimes. And I know some people are going to say its stupid to…

When a Jehovah's Witness Grows Up to be an Atheist

After all this time, all these years, all these degrees of separation - a mere knock guides me to shedded enemies. It was midmorning when a pair of shadows alerted me to some unexpected presences. I think I knew before I knew, my gut clenching beyond the usual spasm of social anxiety.

The blockers of the light lingered and adjusted themselves and finally put knuckle to…

Warning: Non-Geek

You may find there's not much here because I'm really not very good at figuring out computer instructions.  I guess and I try, and as often as not, end up accidentally losing what I have written.  If any of the people who read this live in the St. Louis area and want to help me learn how to work this, I will start blogging in earnest.  I will start with the details of how I came to be an atheist.

I was born into a Christian family, in that my mother was a serious Christian, a Sunday…

Is government a more powerful force than love?

I didn't join this site to take other people's words out of my mouth.

I attempted to emphasize the importance of love amid the current trend of legalized gay marriage. I'm not anonymous, so anyone can go to Facebook to verify my support of my gay friends' new marriage intentions.

Marriage is a much older religious institution than a governmental one, and marriage is younger than love. Tell me ThinkAtheist, does law matter more than love?

The Dream and Reality of organised religion

The dream  of religion is worshipping God and going to heaven.

The reality of religion is to over power people and single out everything else.

This includes not thinking for yourself, constantly fearing the unknown, and controlling what people do, and giving then only 2 choices which is obey or die.

It defeats the purpose of freewill, and confuses people on right and wrong.

Random Chropra quantum-woo generator

I was still laughing after the 25th random generated Chropra-woo line. My favourites were:

"Eternal stillness results from a symphony of joy"

"The ego transcends karmic creativity"

"Your consciousness projects onto universal mortality"

The American Neitzsche

"To sum up: 1. The cosmos is a gigantic fly-wheel making 10,000 revolutions a minute. 2. Man is a sick fly taking a dizzy ride on it. 3. Religion is the theory that the wheel was designed and set spinning to give him the ride."

Intelligent Life

The significance of the "Copernican Revolution" is that as soon you embrace the Sun as a star, you are immediately faced with the possibility that when you look out into space, someone or something is looking back. Before Copernicus most people thought the Earth was pretty much the whole Universe so the idea of aliens on other planets really creeped them out. The Jesuits had enough trouble deciding whether or not Native Americans had souls, let alone ET. Did each planet…

Atheist TV -coming soon!

American Atheists will be launching a TV channel in July that will be a 7 day a week/24 hour format:

This is a long overdue event that hopefully will help further the exposure to the atheist cause in America. It is my sincerest hope that they do well.

Sobre "Coming out Atheist"

Will AI end our species?

I disregard prophesied apocalyptic scenarios (except for recurrence of known natural catastrophies), but I'm increasingly interested in the probability of AI taking on a life of its own, at humanity's expense.

Few would argue that, over time, AI will become increasingly enmeshed with our lives. Many believe that we'll always retain control, with preemptive capabilties in cases that would otherwise head out of control. Some argue for unlimited "progress", no worries.

I'm afraid…

Instruct and Forbid the Same, with Exceptions

The holy doctrine I and so many others were asked to swallow says I must do certain things that are forbidden. Confusion, right?

There's killing and stealing, love but also hate your family and friends. Good deeds get you into heaven, but no, you just have to really believe. You're responsible for your behavior, no you're not because Jesus takes that away.

Confusion brings fear, that brings hatred, that brings suffering.

For it's several thousand pages, the Good News…

What a Douchebag

Has anyone seen this article?

Alabama Supreme Court Justice Believes 1st Amendment Only Applies to Christians

What a douchebag!  The dude is wrong in so many different ways, it's ridiculous. Not only does he have very little idea about comparative religion (he apparently thinks Buddhists believe Buddha created everything, and Muslims believe…

I invite anyone to beat me to the punch on this idea

Simple: a Family Tree of Religions

You start with ancient Greek, Egyptian and Zoroastrianism stuff, show the (basically) separate beginings of the Bhagavada Gita, Upanishads, all the eastern stuff. Other early religions in other places, yes include those.

I'm talking about an illustration of the EVOLUTION of religion. A picture is worth 1,000 words, and I think such a thing would in general reduce the chances of thermonuclear eschatology.

Mystery and Music

I love mystery. It stimulates the mind. It keeps us busy, makes us useful and therefore meaningful.

I'm reminded of the fact that most numbers are irrational. Most of human experience is irrational, and only a small amount may ever make sense to us.

I've made music since I was 5, and now I'm 44. What keeps it interesting? What keeps it interesting is that one can always improve; the only limit is the ability to be honest about shortcomings. You must be able to honestly assess…
