About Me:
I like to write, just not regularly. I'm obviously an atheist but before that I was a deist. The story of how I went from diehard christian to an atheist is, to me, an interesting one. I can be very abrasive and like most humans, capable of performing stupid acts resulting from irrationality. I am passionate about what I believe in but not ignorant or unwilling to listen to an alternative point of view. However, most alternative points of view have already been shared with me and I have debunked them so I really have no desire to revisit those old arguments.
Why are you here?
Think Atheist - it just appealed to me when I saw the ad on the Friendly Atheist's website. If there is one thing I do a lot, it's think.

I enjoy the feeling of community I get from interacting with others.
The religion you left
Why you left your religion.
I no longer felt any obligation to believe that anything from the bible was true. I finally put christianity where it belonged among the other failed religions of the world, Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, or Pagans.

I never really could believe that a guy named jesus was god.

An Argument from a Deist

Posted on June 10, 2009 at 12:17am 28 Comments

I still use Myspace but it's only purpose is to participate in a group on there called Myspace Deists. Don't let the name fool ya, it's got a good collection of people that were Deists at one time but have slowly become Atheists.

I still participate in discussions there and there are a few new members that don't exactly enjoy the presence of so many non-believers.

So, the point here is that earlier tonight I responded to a statement made by one of the deists there that… Continue

What the BLEEP do I know?

Posted on May 29, 2009 at 2:04am 6 Comments

I'm not an expert in anything. I do, however, know a little about a lot of things.

What does that mean, and am I only trying to boost my ego? Or is there another reason why I'm sharing this information?

I love science, I always have. Since I was a child sitting in the bushes, peaking underneath rocks and observing the various insects scurrying about. Ants, worms, snails, rollypolly, spiders, bees. That was my first love. That is called Entomology.

Then, my dad… Continue

Preaching to Believers

Posted on May 28, 2009 at 3:00pm 8 Comments

When we debate believers, what is the goal?

Proving to the other side that god doesn't exist? Proving that creationism is silly? Proving that morals are independent of religion? Proving that religion is bad for humanity?

What about proselytizing? Is that what atheists are doing as well? Trying to sell non-belief to believers?

I have a problem with doing this. Meaning, while it's fine to debate believers, I don't think we should be trying to convert believers. At… Continue

Supernaturalism is like a rolodex full of blank cards

Posted on May 27, 2009 at 5:00am 2 Comments

Supernaturalism is like a rolodex full of blank cards.

What is supernaturalism? It's the full encompass of all things that people believe but are not true or not proven to be even plausible. That would include things like tarot cards, numerology, astrology, crystals, spells, ghosts, spirits, souls, and every deity that has been given a name in history.

What does plausible mean? I use it to mean a balance between the likelyhood of something being true and untrue. Or to… Continue

I always like seeing a fellow Kentuckian!  I'm brand new to this site so I'm trying to get my bearings and find friends.  Problem #1 is I can't locate the "Add a Friend" without being taken to a page to import all my friends from other sites.  Can you help?  BTW, born in Lexington, raised in Morehead and now a resident again of Lexington.  Are you from Louisville?

Hi Jim! Thanks for the note! I miss you! I've been busy with work, as well as with my local little town's Friday Night Live free outdoor concert series...After Sept 4th, I'll be hanging out here more often. How are you?
