Yet another Cold Fusion claim

I just came across this article that details how some Italian scientists claim to have "re"-discovered the secrets to cold fusion. As some of you may know, fusion requires unimaginable amounts of…Continue

About Me:
Recent atheist who is confused about himself.
I do not believe in a space-daddy who judges us based on our belief.
I do believe in doing good onto others. I am a vegetarian who sometimes cheats with eggs (Hey, I'm pro-choice haha).
Why are you here?
I am strongly attached to my Buddhist/ Hindu cultural background and am trying to reconcile my recent non-belief.

I'm not a religious Buddhist or a Hindu. But certain aspects of my tradition are just glorious. How do I work around that?

Atheism seems like a misnomer to me. Not-believing in something should not have an "ism" attached to it. But then again, I'm confused. Hopefully I'll learn a lot from this site.
The religion you left
Hinduism, Buddhism
Why you left your religion.
I left my religion because the claims about soul, afterlife, hell, heaven, heavenly angels who are willing to have sex with you once you reach there, etc. simply do not make sense to me.

Humans aren't born into this planet with a belief in a judgemental space-daddy. If anything they are born with a curiosity for things and a desire to engage in creative endeavour.

The religions I "quit" seem a bit more sane in terms of spirituality than the desert religions but they are no less judgemental and draconian. I love the fairy-tales and legends and the cultural and artistic impact of the two religions but that's about it.

To my American friends: You're kinda F-you-see-k-e-dee

So I just read on several tech-news sites that the US government is implementing a unique internet ID for every resident. Gary Locke, the US Commerce Secretary said that the system would

not be akin to a national ID card, or a government controlled system, but that it would enhance security and reduce the need for people to memorize…

How should I label this?

My mom works at a nursing home caring for seniors. She works in a diverse environment- ethnically and culturally. Although she is excellent at her job, her English isn't very good and she does not know how to use the computer. So what she does is whenever she is asked for an email address, she provides mine and I'm perfectly fine with it- so long as they don't spam me and especially so if they do not spam with me religious bullshit.

But it finally…

Apartheid and Racism in Hinduism

Many westerners have a romantic view of India and other Hindu countries as the magical land of Maharajas and festivals and colour and ancient castles where Hinduism flourished. A strong association with Yoga and healthy eating also goes a long way in ensuring Hinduism as a religion (or a way of life as it is advertised these days) of joy, harmony and kinship with nature.

But it is a religion nonetheless and since the number of Hindus around the world is increasing with India becoming… Continue

Reason to care # 314,159,265

With the passage of the US health care bill being hailed as a landmark victory for Obama, I think it might be appropriate to get the opinions of the baby-killers among us who see the glaring hypocrisy in this bill.

As most of you already know, this bill hinges on the promise Obama made that abortion will NOT be covered. Keeping to the central theme of this website (and not even going into the details of how the health care issue even came into public discourse), I find it highly… Continue

lol wasting my life..

I finished a BSc. in chemistry and now earned a second in Biology. I start my MSc. in microbiology.. well actually I'm kind of already working on it. I want to do my PhD at UofT afterward. Then I'm going to be a stay at home mom.
Joking! I have good intentions of becoming a professor! Why waste only a few years of your life at a university when you can give them all of the, you know?

Thank you! It is very nice to be with people who aren't bogged down by preconcieved notions that block their judgement. ^_^ PS... I see you're new here... so... welcome to the community!
