I would like some recommandations of some of the scariest movies you've ever seen. It's really annoying that I can't find any movies that can scare me. By the way, I hate cheap scares. I don't like things that appear suddenly, etc... I mean, they are ok once or twice, but they wear out really quick. And I would like the movies to have at least a decent plot. Thanks!
That's tough because we're all scared by different things. For example, I love movies with a good, creepy atmosphere like Session 9. But I'm not even sure that one would be considered horror - more of a psychological thriller.
If you are having trouble finding good scares and are okay with subtitles, I'd suggest checking out some of the better foreign horror. They tend to be much less predictable than the American stuff. One of my favorites is A Tale of Two Sisters, but there are many good ones.
Can you name a few movies that you think are worth watching? A lot of these foreign movies (not just horror) are remade by americans and most of them are much much worse.
Yes, stay far away from the American remakes - nearly all I have seen were terrible. Here are some that I enjoyed and found at least moderately scary. Again, these are all foreign so be sure to watch the originals rather than the lame American versions:
I have seen Audition, the remake of Ringu (The Ring), The Orphanage, and the remake of [REC] (Quarantine). I only really enjoyed The Orphanage.
I didn't like Wicked Little Things and The Blair Witch Project. And they are not scary at all. Of course, being lost in the woods at night is not a pleasant situation and if weird things would happen I would be scared, but the movie is below average. By the way, have you seen the sequel? If yes, is it better or worse?
Stay away from Blair Witch 2. Not scary at all, and I actually liked the first one.
I haven't seen Session 9. But I've seen a few movies with creepy atmospheres, like: The Thing (1982),Alien (1979), Aliens (1986), even The Sixth Sense (1999) at some points, the first Saw (2004) movie is really great, Psycho (1960), The Shining (1980)... the last two are among my favourite movies.
Do anyone think that zombie movies are scary? I've seen a few, some of them are really great, but none are scary for me. And it is the same with movies like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, Friday The 13th, A Nightmare On Elm Street, etc.
I love The Shining too. One of my favorites. The original Nightmare on Elm Street scared me badly, but I would have been 12 or 13 when I saw it at a Halloween party. Now it just seems silly.
I am a big fan of zombie movies and have seen most of them, but no, I can't say that I found any of them I've seen as an adult particularly scary.
