This is meant to be a hysterical thread for any jokes you want to make about this topic but also to serve as a serious place for me to understand further how Atheists think...
I considered myself an Atheist for quite a while but it just never felt right. I wasn't really being "me," but I was trying to please someone else...anyway....now I'm being me. I DO think there is a TON of evidence and proof that God does in fact exist.
But this thread is not about me. It's about you. I want to know what would it take for you to say, "YES that's it!" What "evidence" or "proof" are you looking for? What EXACTLY would you need to see to be able to say, "Wow yes, there is a God..."....A scientific journal article? A scientific experiment? Richard Dawkins saying it? lol...What? What could possibly persuade you to suddenly believe that there is a God.
And because I know it's probably going to happen there are some rules for participation
Rule #1. No spinning this back on me. I'm asking YOU what YOU think. If you want to ask me what i think start a different thread for that.
Rule #2. No ducking the question. Saying, "the "onus" is on you to prove." No. That's not going to fly here. We're not discussing the "on us" argument. We're discussing what would it take for you to be convinced. A lightning bolt up your ass on a sunny day? A surfer Jesus knock on your door? lol...OK I'm being sarcastic. But seriously WHAT?
Have at it!
Ok, I'll bite first...
Whatever it is that theists use as evidence would be a start. Something that would justify their claim that their specific god is real.
You say that you think there is “a ton of evidence and proof” for this claim? Well why not share some – just a tiny shred of it. I genuinely cannot see any. I don’t think you have any, just a ton of arguments and opinions that you consider to be evidence. I don't even think you can describe your God to us.
I can describe God very well to you. But again - that's for another thread.....
I have to disagree... you asked us to tell you what would be sufficient evidence for us to believe in god... it's difficult to answer that without knowing what this "god" thing is.
My question again is simple: What EXACTLY would you need to see to be able to say, "Wow yes, there is a God...".
What "evidence" would satisfy you. Or what would you consider to be evidence to begin with? People have said over and over there is no evidence. What would you consider to be sufficient evidence?
Evidence of what? We need a working definition of "God" to be able to answer this question. Some people define God as the beauty of nature... in which case, there's plenty of evidence. I'm guessing that's not the God you're talking about, though.
"...I can describe God very well to you...."
I'll bet you $100.00 that you can't. After 2,000+ years of trying believers haven't been able to accomplish that simple task.
Interesting question! Honestly, I don't think there is quite enough evidence to say for certain that either God that there is no such thing as God.
First of all, what is God? When we say "God", are we talking about the God of the bible, or are we only talking about a creator in general? Also, we know nothing about any creators, so we do not know if a) a creator does in fact exist, and assuming he/she/it does,
b) if this creator is perfect c) if this creator is even alive or has died, and the list goes on.
I think real "evidence" would be if this creator could actually present himself/herself/itself in a way that we could understand it.
I think in our lifetimes anyways, it is going to be impossible to get proof that "proves" or "disproves" the existence of God. I think the proof I would require would be a public occurrence (non anecdotal) of something that totally goes against laws of nature and physics. However, even then, I would still not be 100% convinced because it could be a phenomenon that we just don't know about yet, but is still explainable by future science. Therefore, I do not think there is any evidence in the world that could convince me fully that there is no God, or that God exists.
To be honest, this question itself is even difficult to answer. I would ask this God to appear to me right now to the count of three and have a conversation with me. I know this is a lot to ask. The thing is, even if this did occur, I would question whether or not it actually happened or if I was just going crazy lol.
LOL this is going to seem weird, and I don't know why, but I always had God in my head looking like this 100% from the cartoon Madeline which is what I used to watch when I was younger:
see the tall blue figure? I think this character is depicted as a woman, but I always pictured God as a male looking exactly like the character but with a male's voice. If God were to appear to me like that, I would feel a sense of happiness. However, I would still ask: does God appear to me like this because that is how I understand him, or does God look like this because I am imagining things, and this is how I portray him in my mind?
Don't over think this. Defining "which God" or "what is God".....we are not saying any particular God per se...
But Belle, By capitalising god, you are referring to a being named God... which basically limits this discussion to the Abrahamic religions (to my knowledge).
