I have not thought of a person of faith that I can ask about the mention of unicorns in the bible. It seems like such a trap to put them in that it is almost cruel. But then some have harassed me about being a non-believer that I would love to throw it in their face. But maybe they would come back at me and say something like what Dr. Elizabeth Mitchell said on June 25, 2008 https://answersingenesis.org/bible-questions/unicorns-in-the-bible/ “Modern readers have trouble with the Bible’s unicorns because we forget that a single-horned feature is not uncommon on God’s menu for animal design. (Consider the rhinoceros and narwhal.) The Bible describes unicorns skipping like calves (Psalm 29:6), traveling like bullocks, and bleeding when they die (Isaiah 34:7). The presence of a very strong horn on this powerful, independent-minded creature is intended to make readers think of strength.

The absence of a unicorn in the modern world should not cause us to doubt its past existence.”

Let me pause for a minute because I am laughing so hard I can hardly keep my concentration here.

Will you have the courage to approach a friend of the faith with this? If you do let me know what they say, please.

Numbers 23:22

God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.

Deuteronomy 33:17

His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns: with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth: and they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh.

Job 39:9

Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?

Psalm 22:21

Save me from the lion's mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.

Psalm 92:10

But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil.

Isaiah 34:7

And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.

Analyze the text of the world's religions?  It is the same as analyzing the Lord of the Rings or the Harry Potter stories,or even Mickey Mouse cartoons.  Admittedly the bible has more violence than all of them together but to study superstitions is a waste of time as far as I am concerned.

It seems only fair the burden of proof should be shared. Why? Because you are claiming it is not valid just as much s I am saying it is. So, are we at an impasse?

I cannot prove it to you. Why? Because -again- each person has to ask God Himself to prove it.

Ask God to prove it. Others have and have written books about their experiences. So ask Him directly. Who better than straight from the Horse's mouth?

If the answer you get brings you right back to atheism, then you've proved something, right?

That is the true challenge for all of us, isn't it?

I can't prove it to anyone, ever.

So then, WHY BOTHER asking for proof if you're just going to dismiss it because it was not part of your own experience which is the only way you would accept it?

I cannot prove it to you. Why? Because -again- each person has to ask God Himself to prove it.
Wait a minute....just ask God for something? Why didn't I think of that in 23 years of being a Christian, or in the two years of slow and painful journey giving up my faith?

Oh, well, at least I know how how easy it is.

Hey, God? Will you prove that the Bible is true? Please?

Haven't heard anything, but then I didn't wait very long. I'll check back here later to see if God has posted anything, and let you know if God speaks to me in person.

"Why take the lazy way and just believe the words of others?"

Isn't that exactly what 99.9% of all religious followers do anyway? It's called indoctrination.

We simply can never know unless a self-proclaimed expert can dictate to us just what bits were corrupted or not.

If you are looking for expertise in a given field, why wouldn't you look to an existing scholarly community?

Elizabeth Mitchell is a creationist. Her religious beliefs will always trump scientific consensus. Like all deluded creationists she will twist Science to make it bible friendly. In other articles for AIG she has displayed her complete ignorance of Evolution, so as a “doctor” she has no credibility, except amongst the people that are already science deniers.

I think the last line in her article sum's it all up,

"To think of the biblical unicorn as a fantasy animal is to demean God's word, which is true in every detail"

Yes, right, if it's in the bible it must be true because it's in the bible.  Where do these people come from?

My His Holy Noodleness bless you all.

I bring up the repeated mention of giants and cities of giants, then ask why no archeological evidence has been found to support them.  Hilarity ensues.

The consensus among Biblical scholars is that the animal in question is an Auroch. The usage of the word Unicorn is down to a poor translation from the original KJV.

What?? I hear you say –the Bible has an inconsistency? Yes, I am afraid so - but don’t worry, it is the only one. Every other version of every other translation may have differences but really they are accurate.

FANTASY

Giants …..  ?

Goliath ,of course, (1 Samuel 17.) but also Deuteronomy 2.10 ,2-20 and 3.11 “For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants;”

Unicorns …. ?

Numbers 23.22

“ God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.”

Also Psalm 29.6

“He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn”. ,then also Psalm 92.10 & Deuteronomy 33.17.

Satyrs … ?

Isiah 13:21 But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there.

Cockatice …..?

Jermiah 8:17:"For, behold, I will send serpents, cockatrices, among you, which will not be charmed, and they shall bite you, saith the LORD."

Flying Fiery Serpents …. ?

Isaiah 14:29:"Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent."

And even Dragons .. ?

Isiah 13:22 And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces: and her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged.

And just to out-Dreamworks Dreamworks ,how about a talking Donkey ..?

Numbers

22:28 And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?

22:30 And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? And he said, Nay. (or should that be Neigh).

Quite right Reg ...

if you ever want a laugh .. find an on line version of old Torah texts and see what they translate them as .... my favourite was the Cockatrix ... apparently it was originally meant to read as Ostrich.

Yes, right, if it's in the bible it must be true because it's in the bible.  Where do these people come from?

There should be a point of view out there that the bible is the word of Satan, meant to mislead people and demean the real word of God! And one of the many, fleeting forms of Satan is the unicorn, of course.
