I don't know if even they would be that insane. Israel's response would be heavy-handed given how roughly they treat the Palestinians. PLUS, the United States is committed to defending Israel.
I'm not saying it can't happen because, after all it's the Middle East, but it would be a crazy ass thing to do.
The US wouldn't use nukes, but almost anything else would be on the table.
I'd be the one in the pool who bets 10,000 dollars that it doesn't happen.
OT, but Tsutomu Yamaguchi says its no big deal..LOL
A resident of Nagasaki, Yamaguchi was in Hiroshima on business for his employer Mitsubishi Heavy Industries when the city was bombed at 8:15 am, on August 6, 1945. He returned to Nagasaki the following day, and despite his wounds, he returned to work on August 9, the day of the second atomic bombing. That morning he was telling his supervisor how one bomb had destroyed the city, to which his supervisor told him that he was crazy, and at that moment the Nagasaki bomb detonated..
I heard a similar anecdote about someone taking three days to make his way home after the Hiroshima blast. He managed to get home, and told his wife "a big blue flash" and...there was a big blue flash.
Did some poking around. The person I am thinking of is probably Shigeyoshi Morimoto, 46 at the time. He actually got to explain to his wife what had happened in some detail, even telling her if she sees such a flash, to get under cover immediately, before the (delayed) blast wave turns all the windows into flying knives. At that point, the second bomb hit... and she actually got up to look around. He pulled her down below the windowsill and probably saved both their lives.
It was a miracle !
I think it's interesting the Japanese military was so suicidal, that despite the dropping of 2 nuclear bombs and the promise of many more, they tried to stop Hirohito from broadcasting his surrender speech in order to fight to the last man standing.
And the fact that they didn't shows the power of nuclear deterrence.
I think the Iranian people have historically inhibited their conservative government's penchant for despotism, so I don't know, but I'd bet against it. I'm more willing to bet that North Korea and its brain-washed-since-birth population are more desperate to show off their nuclear powers.
While they do their best on a very limited budget, I think their military leaders have all received a competent military education and thus realize that an attack on S. Korea and even more especially the US would be suicide.
The problem is their leader who would execute anyone who raised objections if he decided to do something stupid.
