So sad my brothers and sisters - this is what Iran was before Islam got a hold of it and destroyed it ....I thought some of you would be interested to see what Iran used to be before the Islamic Revolution that has terrorized my homeland.

Nice music video, now why do you watch some history and accept the fact that your Muslim brothers and sisters are the ones who staged their own revolution and embraced their Ayatollah in defiance of the western values espoused by their Shah.
Bug off and stop harassing me you pest. There were a multitude of reasons for the revolution including the fact that the people were brainwashed by Khomeini at the time by buying into his lies that he was simply "going to be a religious figure and go to qom" and in fact the secularists and communists were fooled too. In addition - the Shah did make some mistakes and he didn't use force when he had to at the beginning and instead of taking care of Khomeini sent him into exile. And in addition - you had a weak coward in Jimmy Carter who didn't stand with the Shah during critical periods.
Again - this video is a video for people to see Iran pre-1979 - not to debate.
STOP PESTERING ME.
I see, unquestionable propaganda - is this like the one about the earth being created in six days?
BUG OFF PEST.
I see, so it is just propaganda that can't be supported by the facts. You should know better than to post such fallacious claims on a freethinkers forum - why don't you go show this video to some Christians, they'll believe anything.
The video is incorrect - people were unhappy, very unhappy, unhappy enough to stage a very violent revolution. There was a lot of westernization but only for the elite - the Shah concentrated too much wealth in the upper classes, why do you think they staged the revolution? With all your formal education I would think you might have at least taken a history class at some point. If not history, then how about critical thinking? How do you explain the motivations for the revolution if you believe life before the revolution was all rosebuds and petunias for the masses?
Y'know, I'm not Iranian and I don't know anything about Iran. I also don't know anything about any of the history that you two are talking about, so I couldn't possibly comment on any of it.
Here's what I DO know, Sassan. Heather is speaking to you in a dignified, polite, and respectful manner. You are being very rude and disrespectful toward her. That is NOT how we do things here, good sir. I'd like to politely suggest that you pack that attitude up and take it somewhere else.
You haven't been seeing what she has been saying in another thread. She has come to hijack this thread. This thread is not about debate. This video is simply a video I want to share to everyone. She purposely has come to hijack this video/thread for her nonsense garbling diatribe. Please understand my frustration. I simply want her to delete her comments on this thread and I will delete mine. She can say what she wants on the other thread. But this thread is to express what Iran was pre-1979 compared to today.
Well if this thread is to express what Iran was pre-1979 then that is exactly what I am doing by providing the facts that your music video obscures. It seems to me you don't want to know what Iran was like pre-1979, you just want to watch a music video and dream that it is/was true. If you try to pass this off as fact then be assured that I will be here to declare it to be the fallacy that it is. You know for a fact that a nation that was all happy like the people in that video would not stage the massive revolution that occurred, and you can resolve that issue by sticking your head in the sand, or you can face that facts.
My take on this as another Iranian:
Iranian Regime on that time never considered Islamists as a threat to his power. In fact Shah had a great support from Mullahs. Shah wouldn't do any kind of celebration without the permission of mullahs in Qom. The regime was more focused on suppressing Marxists and Nationalists (Mosaddegh followers). No doubts Shah's regime tortured and executed a lot of oppositions from these two groups. On the years close to 1979 revolution we never see a single execution of Islamist though. Shah until last days of his power was thinking of mullahs as his allay. That was his biggest mistake. I agree with Heather that the scenes here are just a minor elite and the rest of country wasn't in good shape. Remember revolutions never happen if the people aren't hungry. Shah and his father commit the mistake of not spending time and energy on education and enlightening the people. Let say they didn't feel that is necessary like all dictators. As long as they had some clergymen to consulate and justify their action for religious-mind of the nation they were good to govern. Unlucky for Shah Mullahs betrayed him. And the fact that Iranians fall into the religious regime means they didn't know enough about the horrors of religion in power. You get what you deserve. Anyway without this Islamic revolution the chances of me being an atheist now would be very low. I thank them for that. Cheers.
