I really don't like he throws around the word faith in this interview.

That sounded bad.

Matt, I agree. Faith is like saying spiritual. It just means whatever.

His definition of faith seems to be: Faith is a belief that can be backed up, or disproven, with evidence. Considering religion's misunderstanding of the word "faith", Mr. Freeman's definition seems to be more succinct yet still carries epistemological depth. I think everyone in the atheist community is frightened by that word faith, and I can see why. We continually see the word "faith-based" attached to banning of homosexuality, women's rights, education, and even the Iraq war. This is because people of the christian persuasion want to dress up their acts of hatred, death, and ignorance with something that sounds home-grown by good hard working, salt of the earth people who like phrases like-"Faith-based foreign initiative" (war against muslims or a war against Jihad) or a "Faith-based education" (we want to teach creationism not science) in order to persuade them of taking some action (with regard to religion of course). So over the years, the christians tend to water down that definition to mean anything they want, and now we have to take that word back from them, so that "faith" actually means something, as opposed to some nebulous definition.
