How ironic and perverse that Focus on the Family should dare to call themselves "tolerant." They have always been among the worst intolerant groups in the American Landscape. Established by the ever irritating James Dobson, this organization has made its mission to "take back America for Christ." Focus on the Family led a Spring 2005 attempt to protect the Air Force Academy of Colorado Spring's "right" to discriminate against and harass non-christian cadets at the training academy. For example... Focus on the Family seemed to argue that it was the right of evangelical students at the academy to call a Jewish cadet "Christ-killer" with no reprimand or restraint.

Furthermore... they are known Christian Nationalists [aka... they want to overthrow the democracy and replace it with a christian kingdom] - imo this makes them traitors. How am I sure of this? There is irrefutable proof (see "Kingdom Coming" by Michelle Goldberg) that they are in bed with the most radical anti-democracy christians.... Reconstructionists! Including the John Birch Society... famous for calling Brown v. Board of Education an assault on liberty.

This organization is evil to its core. And what is worse is that it is being funded by taxpayer money through the Faith-based Initiatives set up by Dubya and (sadly) not yet repealed by Obama.

They don't want their children exposed to "propaganda." How ironic.

This stuff is constantly spewed in the churches FYI. To keep people active I guess.

Homosexuality is simply part of humankind - it always has been and always will be - religious nut jobs like this woman need to get over it - but Christians can understand this or accept this simply because their holy book is so anti-homosexual.

(and she was probably bi in college - if she went to college)

This makes me feel so tired. I know this is nothing new...the accusations of "recruitment" have been lobbed at the lgbtqi community for some time.  But it makes no sense...I guess they'll say anything to justify their fear.  If I could wave some magical rainbow-striped wand to "recruit" heterosexuals across the "lines" into The Dark Side, I wouldn't, not for a second.  I know that's politically incorrect and I'm supposed to embrace my diversity and blah, blah, blah...but because of groups like Focus on the Family, I wouldn't wish this on any child.  Well, I guess this version of the conspiracy takes a slightly new twist:  heterosexual allies of the gay community and fair minded educators must now be included in the ranks of the "recruiters."  But why would a heterosexual teacher recruit a heterosexual student to The Dark Side?  Straight teachers have no devious incentive to recruit for the other team!?  So, what's going on here, hrrm, Focus on the Family?  :-o

If God hates queers so much, why did he make them so powerful?

This makes me feel so tired.

I know the feeling.  Sometimes I see things that make want to rage, but often I just feel like I don't have the energy for it.  If I blew up at every incident and every organization that said and did ignorant and hateful shit, I'd be on a perpetual rampage.

I don't see anything wrong with it.  There are two aspects to it that I agree with.

i) Why should anyone be changed from the way they are?  If someone is straight, they're straight.  It's not their fault.  They can't help it; they were born that way.

ii) As you implied, even if there's nothing morally (or otherwise) wrong with being GLBTTQQI2S(whatever), that doesn't mean it doesn't come with hardships for many (if not most).  It's not contradictory to accept and appreciate their sexuality/ sexual identity, yet still lament all the shit they had to put up with because of it.

aren't they tired of being afraid of, and hating so many different types of people? I'm so offended, and I'm straight. This organization is going out of their way to target only homosexuals. Who the fuck cares, honestly, how does this affect them?

I just don't know what to do with this. I was going to send them an email saying how disgusted I was with all this slander, but it wouldn't make any difference. They honestly believe that they are doing the best thing that they can, and that's the saddest and most infuriating part of all this.

They honestly believe that they are doing the best thing that they can...

For some of the people who follow the organization, this may be true.  For the people running the organization, it almost certainly is not.  If you go to the site and look at the section on teen suicide, there are some special apologetics at play that are disingenuous to say the least.  There may be a valid point or two in the mix, but for the most part, it's mental gymnastics.  Instead of saying 'that's troubling; let's take a good, hard, honest at the issue," they've remained steadfast in defending an untenable stance, even in the face of a grievous issue.  Normally, I try not to speculate and read too far into these things, but it's quite callous.

So children being exposed to even the idea of homosexuality is wrong and unfair because they're "just innocent children," but shoving the bible down their throats as soon as possible is acceptable? That makes sense.
