The Scientific Method-Richard Feynman
The Feynman lectures on physics
Apparently there is something unbelievably hilarious with the idea that: theory conflicting with evidence = wrong.
I just finished reading "Surely Your're Joking Mr. Feynman!". I do wish I had read the book years ago, 1988.
Feynman mentions the idea of 'Cargo Cult Science', where a researcher might follow the 'appearance' of science, but there is some corrupting influence, or magical thinking that intrudes. Studies into PSI, UFO's, drug effects, educational models, and many psychological studies could be classed in this group. From another recent conversation on TA, a few of us have attempted to discuse the McKenna hypothesis, which also could be in this class.
Feynman mentions some of his concerns for 'process' and maybe 'spirit' of the scientific enterprise. I suggest reading the last chapter titled 'Cargo Cult Science', but a full read is very much worth the time, and will add to your joy of exploration, and reinform our need for honesty.
