The human genome contains some 25,000 genes. Where did they come from? How are new genes formed?

I understand Fred. My wife is Czech. I know maybe 200 words in Czech. At a normal spoken pace, I'm happy if I just catch the context of a five minute conversation. 5 words... I understand one... 10 words, I caught another! It entertains me anyways when I'm out of the conversation. I need to watch more subtitled Czech movies like Kolya.
