@ Freddy Said - I agree with your point about the pledge. In fact, when I was in the 11th grade I stopped saying it completely. That was on April 5, 1968 (the day after the murder of MLK), because it was then that I knew it was all a lie. I was sent to the principal's office to "defuse" the commotion my refusing created. I hadn't realized it right away, but others had followed my lead. that wasn't my intent. I just wasn't going to be forced into saying something I no longer believed. Strangely, on the following Monday and from thereafter, the school just stopped requiring that it be repeated at the start of the day. But it was getting harder and harder to keep up the farce anyway with all the body bags that were beginning to come back from Nam. And then things went downhill from there.

To where we are now.

@ Emmy Ellison - Sorry but meeting Madalyn is no longer possible as she was murdered in 1995.
