I didn't really get his point with the whole puzzle thing. I'm guessing he was trying to state how the complexity of the process is impressive in and of itself. I too have used puzzles as an analogy for science before. To me the universe is like a puzzle made of infinite pieces and every once in a while a few scientists get lucky here and there and contribute to the big, ever-developing picture. Except for Einstein, he just looked for all the edged pieces. Cheater.
