It takes little effort to find inaccuracies in descriptions of Christopher Hitchens. Evan Smith states that Hitchens is "a passionate defender of the war in Iraq despite being a former Marxist." Hitchens has stated that he still sees the world in Marxist terms. His support for the US liberation of Iraq is because of his Marxist background, not in spite of it. Across the world, the Left in general has become so fixated on the struggle against American Imperialism that they have become blinded to the threats posed by fascist dictatorships like Saddam's Baathist regime and terrorists whose enemy is the United States. IMHO Christopher Hitchens is closer to the intent of Karl Marx than most who claim to represent Marxist thought.
