"I'm Heather and I am an angry atheist!" - I simply love that end statement! :)

I agree with Heathers viewpoint... It is very frustrating that religious people explain/justify their actions in magical words or nonsense phrases or quotes from what ever religious text they rely on.

Kind regards, Martin (angry danish atheist)

I got an interesting response to the, "If he's all powerful, why does he do nothing to stop Evil?" Pasting it below.

God allows an evil to happen in order to bring a better good. It may not happen in the time and method we want, but in God’s own time. For example, Martin Luther King, champion of racial equality was shot to death. That is such a heinous, evil crime. How can God allow such a promising cultural figure to die. After a while, that event triggered a tsunami of support for the cause of racial equality.

My reply, well then it seems that we exist at the whim of a Machiavellian deity with an infinite time frame to show success results. That is the ultimate silver lining argument if I've ever heard it. Yeah, an entire family was eradicated along with 12,000,000,000 other people, but hey, it's all a part of a bigger good for other people somewhere, sometime, maybe down the road.

Heather- I think there is plenty to be angry about- and I agree with your points.

But I believe people who regard the Bible as the word of God, for the most part, are unable and/or unwilling to really think for themselves and provide an argument without the Bible (even if the Bible was written by racist, sexist, homophobic, misogynistic, patriarchal, uninformed, narrow minded men and is full of contradictions).

And for those who argue the New Testament trumps the Old, they likely haven't read the New Testament very carefully but have cherry picked the "nice" verses to support their "nice" beliefs (while failing to recognize some of the horrible verses and implications of the New Testament, the mental bondage created by the New and the Old Testaments, and the mental prison they call Christianity).

The sad reality, that many Christians will likely never come to see as we do, is the evidence that Jesus even existed is weak.  Everything written about him is hearsay, and most of the things written about his life are borrowed mythology.  But I can grant them the assumption that he did.  Even so, when the New Testament is carefully read, one can make an easy case that Jesus and his father/God (who are really the same being, so the myth goes) were not really the supremely nice and loving characters Christians make them out to be- the examples are right there in the black and white "words of God" in the New Testament as well as the Old.  The New Testament is really no better than the Old, when all is said and done, when it comes to the "character" of the Christian god.

Your intelligence is an asset with respect to helping the atheist cause and preventing this world from being ruled by religion and falling into another dark age (which I believe is not out of the realm of possibility).  Keep up the good work (preferably as peacefully as possible, but I know it is extremely hard to maintain peace and calm when confronted with the obvious ignorance, irrationality and/or stupidity religion perpetuates).
