good stuff. the "edge" of the observable universe is about 13.7 billion light years away but since things have been expanding in all directions since the big bang- and that means expanding away from us in the opposite direction too- the "edge" of the universe itself is estimated to be around 40 billion light years from us. of course, we'll never be able to observe anything farther than 13.7 billion light years because the light from anything further away would take longer to reach us than the the time since the big bang. there just wouldn't be enough time for the light to reach us.
