Comment by Heather Spoonheim on January 3, 2012 at 10:18pm Is this a joke/parody like The Onion?
Comment by Kir Komrik on January 4, 2012 at 1:36am Hey Robert,
Yea, this sounds like spin or bs.

Comment by Ron Humphrey on January 4, 2012 at 7:04am Not to start a political argument, but in my opinion, Ron Paul is just one step short of a nutcase.
Comment by Robert Karp on January 4, 2012 at 8:37am The video is real, from MSNBC. The title is from Moxnews and is meant to be inflammatory.
Comment by Kir Komrik on January 4, 2012 at 9:12am Hey Robert,
Well, Ron, you may be right. If he really said that and it is not a misrepresentation of what he said, I have to say the opinion espoused is pretty nutty.

Comment by Kir Komrik on January 4, 2012 at 10:09am Hey all,
I did some research on this. I'm not a politico and didn't know much about this guy. Anyway, he is a "state's rights" advocate and he supported a political move to allow the State of Texas to make being gay illegal. It's not really *publicly* clear whether the motive on his part was his belief in "state's rights" or his opposition to gays - which I know is there.
Interestingly, the State of Georgia - my Patmos - had laws on the books for a very long time that made "sodomy" illegal. Same concept.
Having said all this, I *do* think there is some camoflouge in the "libertarian" cloak he wears where in reality he is very much like a Republican; an advocate of the Bush Family Values I've come to love so much. The prudes and sexually insecure in our community who support *any* laws re human sexuality infuriate the f* out me. I do my part to challenge any attempt to use these laws unless somebody clearly got hurt (which is the standard judges should be using - identify tortfeasors, not use "prude police" laws), but I'm a whispering voice in the forest. And people *do* get genuinely hurt, but when it happens a judge can see it very quickly and can tell the difference between real torts and bs. I've never heard of a case where "sodomy" resulted in any tort, except in rare cases of forcible rape.
Anyway, thanks Robert for bringing this out.

Comment by Michelob on January 4, 2012 at 12:13pm Take 30 minutes to listen to Ron Paul debate now and listen to him debate in 2008. You will see someone only for less fed and more rights. I have a hard time believing that he wants to take rights away from anyone.
Comment by Dustin on January 4, 2012 at 9:40pm Ron Paul is always for 'states rights' - He thinks states have the right to do wrong, even if the rest of the country disagrees with it.
So he isn't for anti gay laws, he is for pro state in their way to make whatever laws they want.
So attack the real argument, not the straw man.
Comment by Alexander Miner on January 5, 2012 at 2:15pm What? Vote Romney in? Are you insane? How about this instead... We gather all of these people up and put their sorry asses in prison. After that is taken care of, we elect some people who are capable of critical thinking and will take responsibility for the things they do.
And what exactly has Obama screwed up? It has been YOUR Christian right-wing Congress that had their little "Campaign of NO" in which they swore to say NO to EVERYthing Obama Proposed. Even if it might have been positive for the country, they voted no. In other words, OBAMA DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A CHANCE TO SCREW UP!
All I am saying is let's stop electing the people who are put in front of us, think about it for a second or two, and elect someone of OUR OWN choosing who we really feel can get the job done.
Oh, wait. That will never happen because real American citizens don't realize we can do that. They don't know that we have the power to throw congress out on the street and fill it with whomever we damn well please. That lesson was forgotten apparently.
