But that makes no logical sense because all the civilizations that did NOT embrace homosexuality (I have no idea what those would be pre Abrahamic Religion) hasn't survived either. If we are talking about a lengthy time scale - being a thousand years or so.

Is it bad to wish someone death? Hmmm ....

But by adding the word 'survived' in his sentence , isn't he sort of saying a civilization that has lasted for a long time? Aren't some of those you listed relatively young in the scope of how long the Roman empire lasted for instance? I fail at using google to research it .... lol , but one thing is for certain. Pat Robertson is a spokesperson for what could be a very large amount of followers and that is just sad to think about.

I suppose the Sumerians, Assyrians, Babylonians, and dozens of other significant empires have fallen but it's hard to say what their position on homosexuality might have been.  There are literally thousands of other tiny nations that disappeared to the sands of time in that category.  As Gaytor pointed out, the Roman empire didn't fall until after it became Christian and turned on homosexuality.  The Greeks, to my knowledge, are still there - although they have lost a lot of influence since turning rather homophobic.

 

I would like to know if there is a single fallen empire that can be definitively classed as secular/gay-friendly at the time of its fall.  Certainly not Japan or Nazi Germany.

I think it's fair to say that the fall of these civilizations was NOT due to their embrace or their acceptance of homosexuality. I think that after long enough a civilization will inevitably consume itself. Or God smites them for accepting homosexuality. Who knows?

Beyond showing a country that died out that supported open homosexuality, you would have to show it was homosexuality that was the downfall.

 

It would have to be a Homocracy to even be in the same vein as say a Theocracy that died out where you could show that their system of living was the cause of their downfall.

Isn't this good though? The nut-jobs all the way to the right aren't going to change anyway. But those that are maybe right of middle socially have to own this. Whether they realize it or not, THIS is why they hate gays: because Sodomites raped angels.

 

Perhaps if reason can't get through to moderate homophobes, the total lunacy espoused by Pat Robertson will help them see the error of their ways.
