Guess if I run for office I can be assured the Newt won't vote for me. Whew!

Hmm... let's take the "no" and the "don't" out of those 2 questions. Ahh there we go. Much better. Now it fits with history better too.

"How can I trust you with power if you don't pray?"

How can I trust you with power if you pray instead of actually getting things done?

"Convinced that religious liberty must, most assuredly, be built into the structural frame of the new [state] government, Jefferson proposed this language [for the new Virginia constitution]: "All persons shall have full and free liberty of religious opinion; nor shall any be compelled to frequent or maintain any religious institution": freedom for religion, but also freedom from religion. (Edwin S. Gaustad, Faith of Our Fathers: Religion and the New Nation, San Francisco: Harper & Row, 1987, p. 38. Jefferson proposed his language in 1776.)"

The underline and bold are mine.  If they had it figured out then, what in the hell happened?

Yes. I wonder if he prayed before he betrayed.

Ahh, but @unseen, that is the wonder of religion.  All you have to do is ask for forgiveness...  It only matters if god forgives you.
