Noone is giving excuses. Im pointing out that this is a news hype to something that has existed in the US for longer then our history from many religious groups.

Heres how conversations go with you..

Look how evil islam is - you

All religions do similar crap - everyone else

Why do you apologize for muslims - you.

Its getting old and nonsensical.

And your wrong. Gods law is considered higher by all religious people. Otherwise it negates the whole of their religion.

Women who find themselves in abusive relationships will often refuse to testify against their abusers.  Actually male rape victims are even more likely to refuse to testify than female rape victims.  Neither of these things, however, circumvents the law.  Western law requires high standards of evidence/testimony to garner a conviction.  The atrocities committed by cultural Somalis as well as other Muslims are not treated any different under the law than other types of abuse.  It is the code of silence of sectarian in-groups and victims that needs to be broken.  We've only begun to break through the wall of silence in the Catholic community.  Continue pressure will do the same for the western Islamic community.

The 'legally binding' aspects of third party arbitration are no different for Islam than they are for Catholics, so what is your point?

To say other religions do similar crap is disingenuous - they don't. Islam and Shariah is a threat to all civilized people - and to make accommodations for such evil is a concept of multiculturalism which has been a failure in Europe and has created an even greater divide among Muslims and the west - and is a concept that Europeans are finally starting to abort.

And ask Christians - and I'm sure a good majority of them will say that man-made law is more important and that they will follow the civil laws of society.  The same is not true in Islam as it is an absolutist religion.

Actually - Muslims are treated different. That's why not a SINGLE case has been brought forth for female genital mutilation in the U.K. Everyone knows that this is deliberate on the part of the U.K. authorities as to not "offend" the Islamic community.

Now you say that not a single case has been brought forth - so am I going to go find cases that have been brought forth only to have you change your statement to the more accurate version that there have been no convictions or will you just concede that point right now?  If you do not concede that point now, will you publicly acknowledge that you are WRONG after I go do the damn research?

Secondly, I did not say other religions 'do similar crap'.  Your attribution of those words to me is what is disingenuous here.  To make secular accommodations for ANY religion is a threat to civilization, and I'm not sure why you've become such a Christian apologist on this issue.

If you break the law in the commonwealth you will be charged and brought before a QBC, not a Sharia court - do you have ANY doubt about that in your mind?  If you do, please cite some evidence that would suggest even the remotest possibility of this happening.  I'll be waiting.

Don't make me say it!

I grew up and went to school with as many Canadian born Muslims and Hindus (combined) as Christians.  By the end of high school I could best be described as a deist and only one of my classmates was an Atheist.  ALL but one of us (a Christian) went to the bush parties, drank beer, smoked dope, and lived secular lives.  The idea that western Muslims were any threat at all was a topic that would have been openly laughed at until at least 2 years AFTER 911.  What exactly has changed so radically in the past 8 years other than the rhetoric?

Kris - if Islam has a reformation. And good luck Heather finding me a single case for prosecution as aforementioned.

Using genital mutilation cases is an interesting choice.

Its routine for genital mutilation to occur to a majority of male children in the western world. There is no prosecution and barely any outcry. That practice is a religious practice both jewish and christian. Its actually so indoctrinated in our system that people here now think it odd to not mutilate their sons.

I see no difference.

The British government are working to define legislation that will increase the odds of getting a prosecution on female genital mutilation (FGM).  The London Metropolitan police are actively investigating these crimes to build enough evidence to obtain those convictions.  They've even gone so far as to update the legislation to make it a crime within UK jurisdiction to perform FGM or facilitate the performance of FGM on UK citizens or naturalized residents even when the ritual itself is performed outside of the country.

The London Metro Police openly discuss the issue on their website and there is zero indication that this situation is being ignored to avoid offending Muslims.  Hundreds of cases have been opened, and it is only a matter of time before enough evidence can be gathered for a successful prosecution.
