Not him... David Silverman. Could anything be more detrimental to atheism in the US than this guy going on Fox News and yelling "It's a scam" over and over?

Their viewers ALREADY hate us.  Why stoke the rednecks up?  I agree wholeheartedly with Silverman, but it's rare that an atheist mascot gets this much media attention, and honestly he comes off as a dick every single time.  I don't know what all this talking point rhetoric is supposed to accomplish.  Two serious questions: Do you think playing "who's the bigger asshole" or "who can repeat their rehearsed talking points" on television is going to make anyone legitimately consider their existence?  And do you feel that this style of rhetoric from an atheist mascot is contrary to the intellectual discourse we see from Dawkins, Hitch and Harris?

And question 3: If you dislike this guy as much as I do, do you think it's better for him to douche around on TV to bring attention to the cause, or is he doing more harm than good?

Does O'Reilly think the tides are some sort of supernatural phenomenon?  I thought Dawkins already explained it to him...

Tide goes in , tide goes out ? and he thinks we can't explain it ? what a buffoon, everybody that has a basic understanding of science know that the sun and the moon create the tides.

And yes david silverman is right that religion is a scam but indeed he can bring it with more tact and attacking religious people like this is not helping our cause.

Not that religion deserves our respect ofcourse, for me to respect someone he has to be honest and we all know religion is far from honest.

I greatly prefer the intellectualism of Dawkins, Hitchens, and Harris.  Well O'Riley found out what it's like to get his ass kicked by people like Dawkins on his show, so he went looking for softer targets.  Such a shame.

Silverman seems to be everywhere lately.  Personally, I'm embarrassed by him.

Yeah, Silverman is a bit of a goof.  His social skills suck hard.  He's way too "in yer face" for anybody's liking.

Oh, and Apple, no, O'Riley thinks he outwitted dawkins.  He said something to the effect of "i had richard dawkins on my show and i think i won the debate basically because i asked him how he could prove there was no god and he couldn't do it".

A big problem with human nature is that douchebags attract large audiences.

I'm a bit on the fence about Silverman, theres no doubt he's going to be pissing off the people who already hate us, but on the other hand, he might be drawing attention from the younger crowds, or even the crowds who are closet atheists. Another thing is that he's been making a lot of TV appearances lately, could it be that networks are giving him airtime because he's up in their faces and douchy? Fuck it's hard to make any sense of it.

Fox might be having him on the show to help support their cause that Atheists are terrible people, but with some luck, people will be asking questions and it may have a more positive effect, oh and like Paul said above, "A big problem with human nature is that douchebags attract large audiences". Too fucking true.

I guess we'll just have to sit back and wait for the stats to roll in.
