Not really a fail at all - they are all like that until they can't rationalize away all the contradictions anymore.  You actually have a better chance with the stupid ones because they usually haven't spotted the contradictions and when you point them out they can't actually think their way around them.  With the smart ones who actually start rewriting the bible to account for 'mistranslations', all you can do is keep asking them for their proof.  You did your part, now 100 more of us need to ask him the same damn thing another 12 times each and he may actually start to ask himself.  Score fractional point, boo-rah!
