A great speech and I fully support everything he says but it's all too late I'm afraid.
It can be slowed down by stopping any further immigration but the damage has already been done and is irreversable.
Comment by Great Dane on August 30, 2011 at 6:53am I agree with much of what he is saying except I believe this kind of criticism applies to all religions, even the Christian one, no matter how benign it may seem.

Comment by Kris Feenstra on August 30, 2011 at 8:06pm I agree with a number of issues he's raised, but I disagree with him on the hate speech laws, at least as they are in Canada. Despite his assertion, they are not only used by Islam/ Islam sympathizers against people who are being critical of Islam. I would like to see the laws and the powers of Human Rights Councils be reformed and their limitations better defined, but I do not disagree with their core intent.
I also disagree with laying praise of any sort on Ezra Lavant, but I suppose that's a matter of personal opinion.
Comment by Sassan K. on August 30, 2011 at 11:53pm Kris, wasn't Geert Wilders (although not in Canada) dragged to court for simply his opinions? He was eventually found not guilty, but I believe it is a concern in Europe (admittedly I am ignorant of Canadian laws in regard to this).
Comment by Kris Feenstra on August 31, 2011 at 12:08am I don't think it was simply for his opinions. It seems like there were politics at play that I don't understand well enough to comment on.
In Canada, criminal prosecution for hate speech is extremely difficult. I'm only aware of one case. Human rights councils are quasi-legal bodies that cannot bestow criminal penalties. Cases are generally the equivalent of civil suits with, when the defendant loses their case, fairly low penalties/ damages awarded (and even then, there are a number of cases where this is eventually overturned).
