This video has been linked elsewhere on the site, but it doesn't come up in the videos section when I search, so I thought I'd add it quickly.

Since I was a child, I've had disagreements with others on the emotional intelligence of other animals. Invariably, I would get responses implying I was overestimating other animals because they are cute and I like them. It was hard to get the point across that my opinion was rather the opposite. I think that humans overestimate our own emotional intelligence because we are desperate to feel special in the animal kingdom. While I do think that human emotional intelligence is quite developed and specialized, I don't think it is particularly unique in itself.
