KO was right.  Steve Doocy is an idiot.  It falls back on the same argument over the birthers.  The Republicans can't rightly challenge him over the issues, so they fall back on petty crap like his religious beliefs (irrelevant to government, IMO) and where he was born.  This too is shadow racism.  They can't call the President a n-----, so they drum up this garbage as a proxy.

I'm not very familiar with american customs, but why would anyone expect the president to make a "proclamation" about Easter? Here the PM might wish a happy Easter to those who celebrate it, but no one really has any expectations for such a thing.

Trevor,  It has lately become the custom of conservatives in this country to think that, in defiance of history, the US was founded as a "Christian nation".  It's very important to them that the people in power are openly, vocally Christian, and their faith is supposed to ooze out of their pores.  Obama has made proclamations (as they mention in the piece) on other religious holidays in an effort to appear more open and accommodating.  These people think that they should be given equal time (even though theirs is the dominant paradigm), and if they aren't, well then the President must be a (secret) Muslim.

But of course he is a "devoted Christian" in order to not loose those valuable religious voters.

 

In my country Easter is all about Easter bunnies, chocolate, and eat-till-you-drop family dinners. No one pays attention to the priests trying to convey their Easter prayers.

Easter has nothing to do with Christianity or Jesus' resurrection.  It is the celebration of Esther coming to the Earth, healing a wounded bird by transforming it into an egg laying hare and infant sacrifices for the good fortune of fertility throughout the year.  The closest thing expressed in the bible is Passover, which is the celebration of Jesus' sacrifice for Christian salvation just as the original Passover was a celebration of Gabriel killing the first born of all unmarked homes in Egypt.
