Yes! the Qur'an  does not prescribe any earthly punishment for apostasy, but the Hadith does.. and the Hadith is the 2end sacred book for them.

Please explain more... Trying searching for more info on the Hadith and not finding concrete explanation. I see that it is a collection of books, written by Imams..

First, I was Sunni...Sunnis believe in these 2 books of Hadith; Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim..

Written by Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim...And the word Sahih means authentic or correct.

About apostasy; 

Muhammad said, 'If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him." Sahih Bukhari (83:37)
