Evolution, religion, schizophrenia and the schizotypal personality Lecture

Evolution, religion, schizophrenia and the schizotypal personality Lecture by Standford Professor. Very informative and detailed!

Stanford’s Robert Sapolsky, one of the most interesting anthropologists I’ve heard lecture, gives us 90 minutes on the evolutionary basis for literal religious belief, “metamagical thinking,” schizotypal personality and so on, explaining how evolutionarily, the mild schizophrenic expression we called “schizotypal personality” have enjoyed increased reproductive opportunities.

I think black and white thinking is a huge part of religious belief too.  I grew up in a cult and black and white thinking was enforced, things were either good or bad.

Thank you, that was great.  Man, I miss college.  I'll never look at OCD and Schizophrenia the same again!

this is fab! thanks for shring. this has settled the argument for me - i have had the exact same hypothesis for many years but noone else has suggested it, and definately hasn't has any example studies. America is the best example of a population carrying schizotypal genes since it was just a couple of hundred years ago that humans bottlenecked their numbers to start afresh in america and leave 'religous persectution' - many being batshit crazy fundies.

Wow. A very worthwhile lecture!  Not so much opinions, but data.  Fascinating data correlating religious revelation with schizotypal(ism?).
