I disagree. Demeanor is the difference between tuning in or tuning out. Communication is an active thing that requires attention of your audience to be fully realized.  He could be reading the declaration of independence in his "style" and i would have trouble distinguishing between that and his reading of a poem from a truck stop bathroom wall.

@Stephen: And that’s fine. I understand your perspective. I used to share your view. I just stopped worrying about superficial things and focused on the message. It’s like getting hung up on Janis Joplin’s or Billie Holiday’s voice and appearance and ignoring their ability to convey a message. If demeanor is really a major hang up, you'll miss out on many worthy things... but I dont expect anyone to change their outlook. To each his own.
