Mormon temple ceremonies are a closely held secret. Until now. For the first time in the 170+ year history of secret Mormon temple activity, those activities...
Woah...I mean I had some clue because of Big Love but seriously that is bat shit crazy. XD
Just about as crazy as transubstantiation.
So is mormonism like the christian equivalent of scientology?
No, haven't seen a Catholic funeral or mass. I have been to a Catholic wedding, that was....lengthy.
Jess, so funny that you say that! I was having the same kind of thought watching this video! However, check out the history of this religion if you are interested that is. It has some interesting ties to Horus and borrowed heavily from secret society rituals for its mysticism. J Smith was not only a charlatan, he wasn't a very creative one. At least L Ron had the guts to come up with (mostly, anyway) his own system of ripping people off. Ha.
I pity these victims of the cultural disease known as religion. Everywhere in this video I see the end product: human minds whose ability to reason have been destroyed. (What was that circle of life-sized plastic bulls supposed to be, anyway?)
Whenever I see disturbing things like this, I remind myself of the good news. The ranks of irreligious Americans has grown 25% since 2009 alone, and 13 million Americans are atheists and agnostics as of 2012, according to the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life. Our numbers are growing faster than ever.
It makes me sad to know that some of my very close relatives believe this shit.
It makes me a little sad, that I once knew a very bright gal that believed this stuff after her father died. They can get you at the worst times.
I was invited to a baptism once with a local Mormon church. I was rather amazed when I noticed that very young boys can be made 'elders'. I always thought that 'elders' should at minimum be worldly! The gal being baptised, had MS and was very concerned about the future of her young son. The church had promised to 'to take care of him'.
As an ex-mormon that has done all of these temple rituals repeatedly, I can answer any of your questions in regards to the video. Suffice it to say for now that I still have a hard time being an independent and freethinking human. Mormonism has really messed up my abilities to be a person that contributes to society rather than being a "taker" so to speak. You are taught to trust and follow with little or no questioning allowed and forced to do mental contortions to make science and any other subject fit the mormon mindset "mold."
I can attest to the validity of these hidden camera videos as being real and accurate in showing the ceremonies. Gallup Mirror, the circle of bulls are made out of granite or other expensive stone or metals (never plastic) depending on which temple they are in. They are under a basin (big bathtub/hottub-like pools of water with heated and chlorinated water) of water and there are 12 bulls/oxen of them representing the the tribes of Israel etc. Baptisms are done for and behalf of the dead by a living person acting as proxy for them. (I have been dunked many times for dead people) Men represent dead men/boys and women represent dead women/girls. The main reason that mormons do so much genealogy is to find names of dead people to baptize and then do the endowment stuff that you see parts of in the video.
Tim, I also feel sad for my relatives that still believe this crap that is just taking money and time from them so undeservedly and giving fairy tales in return with little or no real help with anything that matters in life.
James. I was made an "elder" when I was 19 years old. It was ironic and goofy to be called an elder when I knew little or nothing about life at that point. Anyway, ask away if you care to learn more. I don't mind answering any or all questions you might have. Take care everyone. :)
