Want proof that religion is dying? Look no further than the dominance of atheists on the Internet. We fucking own this place, and it's only matter of time be...
Well I certainly would like you to be right, but since people get to chose how they use the internet most people will probably not click on these sies you are referring to. Besides the christians and other are using the internet to spread their messages also. There does seem to be a break away of more people from traditinal religion and with the rise of the atheist movents and groups that have sprung since the middle 1990's it is possible to join atheist, secular, freethought groups. I notice from being on many sites the same small dozen over so people being the doers in groups with 400 or more membes. Many still do not put a picture up nor leave any comment nor any sign of ever coming to any event. I am a history major and a life long atheist, "white" civil rights, labor, feminist.antiwar activist and real early supporter of gays and leesbians(I am "heterosexual") and my experience tells me things change really small. You might take notice of reacism and segregation. Kansas City intercity schools just lost the accreditation because the "leaders" and the people do not care enough to pay the cost of their past. The majority have had all kinds of help and encouragement to move to the suburbs where some willingly tax themselves more tohave superior schools. That equality stuuff is myth too. People want privilege. Christianity is part of that privilege and in practice many atheist have, do and will continue to go after privilege versus equality. That strenghten christianity as a social force I unfortunely I do not expect that to change. Even myself I worked in what I called the privileged layer of the working class. Most of my coworkers thought I should be basically "bought and paid for", my terminology, because I had such a good paying job.Few had any desire to help those"less fortuneate". Habitant For Humanity band-aid approach by doing vlounteering to help a dozen people is much cheaper than providing for millions. Besides many hope to somehow get rich. Lottery, casino, business of your own dreams. Most fail. Can we grow over time? Yes. But we have a long way to go ! Billions over tax dollars and all kinds of govt property are given to the churches. Christianity is taught in the schools with no punishments meted out to these law breakers and atheist kids are haraased and beaten. No punishment against these bullies either. Where are our tv channels or programs? The christians still have almost all the propaganda machine of newspakers, magazine, education, govt , public officials. etc. almost everything. We atheist have to build a moventaand that will not happen for a long time yet. People in other countries also believe in bullshit and will continue to do so. Atheist will come under attack as they mhave been and all the ills of the world will be blamed on atheist and you should understand how many people will be satisfied to blame us no matter how stupid we think it is. Hanf in there for the rest of your life and many generations after we are all long gone and probably all but the few-forgotten! Cheers to us all!
Good thought that leads to an open field. Regardless of how this topic is touched in here, I can see that my 5 children are by far more globally aware and free to communicate in what ever language they so wish through the translation software available for a price or free. They know the time difference, currency exchange unfairness, tax differences, environmental policy histories, gender issues, bent and corrupt media, toxin free living, preventative health care, alternative health care, applied anthropology... so yes, through the Internet, they are finding this world a bit different than what religious generations had when they had no access to the Internet. My kids are quite a spicy critique of organized religions that segregated us for too---- lo------ng. I do not tell them what is right about Chi, Ki, energy and spirituality. In some ways, they possess the same elements as Atheists.
One day my kids asked me, "mom, why do we call a particular place 'holy land' and kill so many people over it. isn't life more holy than the fight over the land?"
On another day I was asked, "why are spiritual practice to worship animals and nature disappearing? isn't nature more important than some human greed?"
My answer is this,
"Travel well, speak many languages, harvest many food, fish in many seas, care for other youth and seniors, offer kindness small but frequent, respect balance and take only what you need, never assume your perspective to be the only, study history and the reasons why it was recorded, be mindful of what you store, listen, eat, touch and accept, be mindful and build awareness inside yourself. Blessings and joy is just a perception, so is your past, present and future and can be changed at your free will."
Then decide where your preferences and ideals are. Life is a big colorful thick book so if you decide to live in one city or one country your entire life, it is the same as reading the same page your entire life. Don't be afraid to lose yourself to find yourself.
I love Mr. Dusty Smith
Maybe more people are atheist than they will admit to and the internet provides a degree of anonymity needed to speak ones mind.
Where religions come to die
He's right, according to this article:
@ED Rubbing salt into wounds used to be done to keep the wound from becoming infected before the invention of modern antibiotics so maybe some salt could cure the infection of religion. Could it be our disinfectant? Honey has some antibiotic properties too so maybe so maybe we should use whichever works best for each individual. Better yet we need to invent penicillin for superstition.
i feel like home on this website....i hope i will come to america and expres myself :)
Because our intellects are superior to theirs...
