Any conjecture about the creation of the universe is "unscientific" in the sense that it was a one-time event that happened long ago unobserved by man. It cannot be repeated and is therefore non-demonstrable today -- hence "unscientific." We only have theories.

Nevertheless we can test the rationality of these four theories (and there are ONLY 4) and thus eliminate conjectures that are incompatible with known laws of science.

Theory #1 is that life is an illusion. Scientific laws do not apply to illusions, thus this theory is theoretically plausible -- it cannot be disproved. It is a philosophical fantasy, however, and not consistent with the observed reality experienced by rational people. Taking a baseball bat and hitting Chang Tzu over the head with it will cause him the sensation of pain no matter how much he thinks life is an illusion.

Theory #2 is that matter always existed and theory #3 is that matter suddenly appeared out of nothing.

Modern man, who begins and ends his inquiry by rejecting out-of-hand any supernatural explanations, has ONLY these two purely naturalistic theories to work with. Yet neither one is consistent with the known laws of science.

Theory #2 is impossible because entropy acting on eternal matter would have dissipated it completely. Over the infinity of years since eternity past to today, that endless length of time would have sufficed to have dissipated all existing matter into something like a static suspension of frozen ashes strewn across the universe.

So the "eternal matter" theory #2 MUST be rejected.

Yet the theory #3 is also obviously false because nothing always produces nothing. It always takes SOMETHING to make something. So as far as physical matter goes, the universe could NOT suddenly appear out of "thin air" -- it is impossible.

In view of the impossibilities of #3 and #2 some have proposed various combinations of them in an attempt to dodge the unscientific failings of them both. The "big bang" theory for example posits that a small dense ball of matter (often given some impressive sounding name: "an expanding singularity", "black hole", "quantum foam"!!, etc. etc.) suddenly exploded a few years ago creating the universe. Left unexplained is where this space ball came from and how long it existed.

Given an eternity of time, entropy would have completely dissolved the space ball, and the space ball's father, and the space ball's mother, and how ever many other space balls are frantically imagined in order to avoid the impossibility of theories #2 and #3.

There is NO POSSIBLE way to explain the origin of the physical universe by means of #2, #3, or a combination of them. Atheist theorist would at this point rather invoke religious oratory about the "mysteries" of the universe rather than admit they have bankrupt theories that leave them only one rational alternative: God.

Theory #4 is unique in that it states that the only way for the universe to exist out of nothing suddenly a few years ago is for a suspension of the laws of entropy and conservation of matter. It is only by assuming a "God" outside of time and space, who is not subject to entropy or other physical laws, that one can provide a plausible theory for the creation of the known universe.

It assumes that physical laws do not apply to "God" and thus is the only way to rationally explain a universe that otherwise should NOT exist.

The difference between #1, "life is an illusion" and #4 "God created the universe" is that #4 accepts the created world AS IT IS and continues to apply to it scientific principals and rational thought, whereas #1 turns all things into mental fantasy.

Since design, architecture, and language are the product of intelligence, not randomness, our natural intuition affirms the correctness of theory #4. It is the only remaining theory, thus it HAS TO BE the true theory.

Atheists are fools. Their best argument against God is their own bad conscience.
