Asking Anti-Abortion Demonstrators an Important Question

What should the punishment be for women who have illegal abortions? Anyone? Anyone?

I found it on Pharyngula, which is a great blog if you haven't read it before.

This is so typical. Pro-lifers just want the control, they don't care about the women who would want abortions. I must admit, though, that their blank expression after being asked this question are pretty funny.

I live in a "conservative" city, and I come across abortion-protesters on a semi-frequent basis.

I have always wondered why these people don't spend their time working toward providing counseling in abortion clinics to those women considering abortion or trying to pass legislation for mandatory abortion counseling. THAT seems to be a better use of energy than waving signs of mangled fetuses at busy intersections.

I started really to question religion when my priest drove his station wagon through the front door of an abortion clinic. I was in catechism classes at my Catholic church, in fifth grade. After the "incident" the catechism teachers took us into a room in the basement and proceeded to feed us anti-abortion propaganda in the form of an audio tape documenting the "life" of a fetus that was aborted. Being so young, I had no idea what was going on, and told my parents about it. They got very angry and took my younger brother and me out of catechism classes, writing angry letters to the church.

I'm rather thankful for this event, because it gives me strong personal support for my convictions.

"I haven't really thought that through"

So you didn't 'think'. Anyone really surprised by that? I think not.
