Just for the record, I'm a new Atheist. I have never been involved in organized religion, however some of my aunts and uncles are. They are mormonites, and I can not for the life of me figure that out. I've tried to study mormonism, but there is just too much that doesn't make sense. The one thing I've always known, or felt, or however you want to put it, is that to me, god was just like an imaginary friend. I've never believed he/she existed. Prayer to me is a joke. I have often asked my family members what prayer means to them, and usually I get some form of the answer, "it brings me closer to god." When I was a child, I really upset my aunt by responding "Well, have you ever been close enough to actually see him?" That went over like a lead balloon. She tried to tell me she could see god in everything... so of course, being the inquisitive child I was, I started asking her if she could see him in a rock, or in a sandwich... she got a kick out of the sandwich one though. She said yes, then I immediately said, "Does he taste good then?" Out of the mouths of babes....

I'm currently in college, majoring in psychology. I'm in my second semester, and one of the classes I'm taking this semester is Philosophy 101. We just started into the module dealing with religion and whether or not god exists. This is an online course, so we have to post discussions to get credit for the readings... we have to prove we have read the text by posting responses to questions the instructor has asked.... needless to say, there are a lot of very religious people taking this class, and they do not respond nicely to atheist... and thankfully, I'm not the only atheist in the class!

I plan to blog my responses to the questions for this unit, so tell me what you guys think... when I get around to getting the blog up...
