I'm a fairly recent convert to atheism from christianity. Though recent is relative as the journey has been long (and sometimes painful). I have found that one of the things I miss most about my former church life is a place to come together with like-minded people and have philosophical discussions. I'm hoping to scratch that itch here.
The religion you left
Why you left your religion.
As the Christian Right became more vocal and forceful I started studying the bible and other christian texts to try to find ways to refute what they were saying. I was sure that the god I'd been taught about- the one of love and compassion- was in there and being misrepresented. The more I studied, the more I looked for context and history the more my doubts grew. The final nail in the coffin of my faith was my discovery that MANY others in history had been called the Son of God (and it seemed in fact to be more of a title than an actual declaration of divinity).
