WOW! you really have done your homework!! More than me by the looks of it! Anyway, maybe I should have said that I don't tink Constantine CARED if he was real or not.
The Jesus myth folks are on the fringes to be sure, but their arguements are quite compelling. They site the many dying and resurrecting man-god stories that abounded at the time of Jesus, with the most similar probably being that of Mithras. He was born ( on Dec 25 no less) of a virgin, in a cave. He was called the light of the world. He was execyted and was dead for 3 deays after which he rose to be the saviour of the world..........but I am sure you know all that.!
When Constantine and his council of Nicea decided by vote that jesus was god...........the debate was not "can a man be a god" because in those days men regularly became gods; particularly emperors. So the discussion was can this LOWLY man be a god..........not can men be gods.
But I am sure you will fill me in on stuff I didn't know here too!
I think the scholars have known it was false for more than 200 years. I think they knew it was false right from the git-go. I don't think that Constantine thought for one minute that Jesus was a real person. I think many if not all popes along the way have known it was false. I have seen a quote from some pope - Clement I tihnk - who said " it has served us well, this myth of Christ".
Hi Nelson... thatnks for your comments. I would love to chat! Actually writing my story was not that difficult, I think it needs to turn into a book. (and maybe that TV movie!) In fact I have several notebooks full of notes in that direction. I wrote it to explain myself to my family, but they don't seem interested in reading it, or commenting on it if they do..........so I posted it here. I am new at this sort of thing and don't get how it all works yet. Twitter is a compete mystery to me............blogging,posting,commenting and answering things are clearing up a bit though
Yo.. I finished the letter think in BB but thought we were going to send it from Morgan's account. Have a look when you get the time? I always forget to check in there.
I have been reading "Letter to a Christian Nation" today. man its good!!!
And you know, I haven't heard from my friend. I sent him a bunch of emails. I don't know how he is taking it all in. I text him and he hasn't responded. He is a bit of a recluse sometimes with his PTSD. And he sorta has a memory loss problem too, he fell from a jump and his parachute didn't open. Anyways, I think Tyler and overloaded him with information on his visit and I am not sure if he even retained it all : ( I feel bad for him. I will let you know what he says as soon as I hear from him though, thanks for asking : )
I have another friend (from my work) that I am 'witnessing to' lol. Man she is taking it all in, I sent her home with some books and Religulous to watch ; ) She is on the right track now! Soon she will be saved(from religion), all on her own, no jesus involved!
hahah cool! Yeah it's been a pretty good week and weekend so far. He has about two weeks off, which is nice but we need to get more work in this month. Next month is looking good for the studio.
The trip was awesome, as usual. She is actually coming to see me in TN this Wednesday too! Gotta get my annual hair cut lol I am so picky I won't let anyone else do it but I gotta wait until we can visit each other to get it done.
Hey there!! Tyler has been off of work this week so we have been doing a lot of family time things, I have been on and off of here a couple of times though. Hope you're having a great weekend!!! = )
I agree! My friend Bradly fought and fought to try and make the club, and we even had one teacher say that'd she sponsor our club, but it was only after the FFRF contacted our school. But the teacher told us we weren't allowed to call it an atheist club. which really pisses me off, because that's like saying it's a bad thing. But I mean, I do live in Missouri. It was expected.
