Robert, last month we discussed the appropriateness of posting news and blog posts from external sources in their entirety. I told you not to do it, but another mod told you differently. Well, I finally got around to posting the question to the other mods, and the decision is that TA is okay with posting the whole thing as long as you provide a link to the source. Thanks.
Well, thanks for sending me a copy of what he said. I'll have to get clarification on this, though I do think that I am correct in this instance. Sorry that there is so much confusion. : )
I'll promote you to moderator of the Hitch group now. When you go to it, you should now see some new features you could not see before. Spend some time playing with them. Thanks.
IMO, he is incorrect for saying that. We should not be posting the ENTIRE article. (Though I'm not going to say I"ve never done that, lol.) Are you sure he's not referring to external blog posts.
TA wants to avoid certain things: 1.) Blind links where people just post a blog with a link and say "check this out," without really explaining what it is or what the person will find when the click, or even commenting on the subject at all. That looks lazy and unprofessional. 2.) Teaser blogs in which a person who owns an external blog joins TA, posts a couple of paragraphs from their personal blog with a link to the other site. In these cases it looks like the person is just using TA to drive traffic to their own site. In these cases, I think TA wants the person to post the entire blog here too, not just use TA as a jumping off point. So in those cases, the entire blog SHOULD be posted. I think this is probably what Nelson was referring to.
But as for what others have written, we don't have authority to post the entire article. I know that copyright infringment is disregarded in this day and age. I post music and images all the time that don't belong to me, so what approach is best? I'm not sure what the answer is. But IMO, if you post a news article or professional blog post, you should only post a portion of it with a link to the source.
As far as being moderator of a group, you basically just get to adjust the settings of the group (features you can't see as a member). You can add text and videos, change the title, delete content or comments, ban members, invite people, change the avatar, etc. Do you want to do it for that group?
Robert, about your recent blog. Please go in an add a link to the article. I did not see one, unless I missed it. Also, don't copy the entire article, but rather just the first part with the link where to read the rest. Also, part of the text is black. Do you know how to fix that? If not, copy the text to your notepad and then recopy and paste. That should get rid of the text formatting.
Yes, I noticed that too. If I am not mistaken, if you miscategorize a post like that, you select "edit" at the top, you can then go down to the bottom of the page and select a new catagory. I know it is like that on some other Ning sites, so I'm sure it is the same here.
Robert, you posted the same discussion twice in the forum, under two different titles. I deleted the first one you posted, but left the second. Perhaps it was just a mistake, but if not, there is really no need to post the discussion twice.
