Greetings from Florida! I have found that when people find out about my beliefs, or lack thereof, they respect my choice to be an atheist. Bear in mind that I always publicly respect their choice(s) to believe even though I privately think they're batshit. It's good to meet you!
Yeah I saw that this morning. I think I sent you a message from your page, but I'm not completely sure. I will try to only be on when I am actually on. that way if you try to chat with me I should be able to answer.
Wow Glen, that's really impressive :)
I'm often surprised and let down by California, since other states are progressing faster than us on some hot topics, and we're the state with the reputation of being super liberal.
I have not found a support group nor a charity that is non religious..and it's always.."leave it to God" when you try to discuss the disease with others..Even the Mayo clinic and larger hospitals groups are religious based..sad. So I deal with it on my own in my own way. And if someone asks to pray for me I decline and move on. I live in the South Eastern US Bible belt and it's very frustrating. When I was trying to get help with a huge bill that the insurance company did not cover I started my own personal campaign thru Indigogo. They take a small percentage for themselves of course, but it was not religiously based.
Dothan does have a Holiday Inn and an Applebees, and a lot more now. I don't actually live there anymore, I moved off to go to college, but it is still the closest thing to home I have. Though there aren't many, there are a few other Atheists. I think I found most of them. They are my friends. I have one friend who is Catholic, but she does not judge us. Then I have other friends who are Southern Baptist. I have to hold my tongue around them. When we talk about religion, they try to convert me. They have next to nothing to argue, but they always think they are winning. Those who are religious and are not a friend are usually somewhat hostile towards my little group. I still have to claim Christianity around my family, sort of. I don't say anything in religious discussions or when they quote scripture at me so they assume I agree.
