Texas has played host to a lot of recent tomfoolery. Shenanigans linked to and summarized below.

Texas' moment-of-silence law upheld by appeals court panel

The Texas law that requires public school students to observe a daily minute of silence is constitutional because it expressly allows any silent use of that minute, whether religious or not, a three-judge panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans has ruled.

Crucial Texas Evolution/Creation Debate Impacted by 'Sowing Atheism...

Solving Light Books announced today that Don McLeroy, controversial Chair of the Texas State Board of Education, has recommended "Sowing Atheism" (ISBN: 978-0-9705438-5-1) by Robert Bowie Johnson, Jr., to other board members and to the general public. McLeroy's timely recommendation could influence the board's final decision on the science curriculum scheduled for March 27. The Texas decision will determine what is printed in science textbooks nationwide.

On the surface (if you don't read the article), "Sowing Atheism" could sound inconspicuous enough, and an optimist might think it was to show what atheist views are. But the full title of the book is Sowing Atheism: The National Academy of Sciences' Sinister Scheme to Teach Our Children They're Descended from Reptiles.

"Johnson points out, the NAS admits it lacks a "plausible hypothesis" for the origin of life. How, then, does the NAS sustain its "evolution is a fact" charade?" -- -- The first part of this seems unlikely, science has come up with at least a few "plausible hypothesis" - but even if they didn't, that doesn't effect the theory of evolution. Abiogenesis and evolution are separate theories; but since creation conflicts with both, a creationist views them as one-in-the-same, and doesn't understand they are separate processes. We may not have a solid theory from abiogenesis, but we have plenty of decent hypothesis; evolution though is a solid theory that no real science has been able to disprove.

Arrghh... Preaching to the choir now, I know... Good post Pam, thanks!

Good point. I also hate how the author obviously links atheism and evolution, as if they too are one-in-the-same.

For anyone interested, I found a pdf called Evolution Gems that explains the credibility of evolution from three different sources.
