A fundamentalist Hindu group called Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh
in India is apparently close to bringing to market a new soft drink made from cow urine. A blog post on discovery.com has the details
"Don't worry, it won't smell like urine and will be tasty too," said Om Prakash, head of the group's Cow Protection Department in another story on line
. "Its ... going to be very healthy. It won't be like carbonated drinks and would be devoid of any toxins."
The drink will be named "gau jal," translated as "cow water." Prakash said that they're going to go after Coke and Pepsi, which have become more and more popular in India. "We're going to give them good competition as our drink is good for mankind," he said. "We may also think of exporting it."
Yum. Can't wait for the exports to hit the U.S. market. Might want to change the name, though. "Cow Water" soda is not going to fly off the shelves.
The RSS mission has been described as one "to cleanse India of foreign influence and promote its ideology of Hindutva, or Hindu-ness."
Oh, the places religion takes us!
