The other day, I got an e-mail from a Christian claiming that I should believe in God even though I can’t see him. After all, I can’t see the wind either and yet I surely believe in the wind, right?

A good post, although it does have a common misconception in it. We have 5 primary senses (sight, hearing, taste, touch, smell) and a number of secondary ones. We have a sense of balance/orientation, we can sense pressure (possibly related to touch, although I am thinking more along the lines of atmospheric pressure), we have a very weak sense of electromagnetic fields, we can sense heat, and so on.

Yeah, I agree with Dave, and with someone in the discussion thread who didn't think "thought" counted as a sixth sense. Either way, our minds do allow us to artificially perceive things our raw senses cannot, at least not unaided. The main gist of the article is dead-on though... not our primary sense, nor our secondary senses, sense God/gods; the tools our minds have invented to perceive things outside our raw senses do not perceive God/gods; there is no part of the human experience that even remotely points to a deity.
