Why I'm Atheist summed up neatly by Marcus Aurelius:

“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved"

i have always liked quotes like the one you posted, i have heard a great many along the same lines as this one.  I personally read "why i am not a christian" by bertrand russell around the age of 15 or so and it was the first time i had read ANYTHING with substance that actually mirrored how i ACTUALLY FELT inside this tiny brain of mine. AT THAT INSTANT i shook off the shroud of christian i had worn for my entire life and became who i am today.  ~rookie~

I'm an atheist because there exists not one shred of evidence for the existence of any gods .

I'm an atheist because of what I learned at college.  I started out as a theist.  Even though it didn't make sense to me, I still had "faith" going in.  However, after years of in depth study, I came to realize it was all a scam used to control and manipulate people.  It truly is the biggest lie ever told......

I was brought up a Pagan by parents and went to a Christian school and after a while just had more questions.  I was constantly in trouble at school for asking so many questions (Why am I going to hell if Hitler is going to heaven etc) I was young and perhaps a little less diplomatic than I am now. Eventually through college and then university realised their was MANY like-minded people. On a side note, how do you guys keep your cool when in a heated debate with a strong Theist? I struggle but bite my tongue, try and keep calm and eventually end up walking away frustrated and occasionally furious.

You can do that because reality trumps fantasy, I say.
