Wow, I guess I haven't made it as "known" as I thought. I need to redo my whole profile on FB to exclaim my atheism. I'm getting really tired of having to deal with this constantly.
My aunt and her son (my cousin) are going through an extremely rough time in their lives. My cousin has been wrongly accused of child molestation. I've reviewed all the information I have been given and I have came to the conclusion that he really is being wrongly accused. (The boy accusing him has also accused several others in the past of the same thing, almost the same story, and has been labeled a delinquent child by DSS. There's a huge story behind it with more facts but those were the main reasons I chose to believe my cousin's side.) So, I can see why they are turning to their Christian god for "love" and "support" There's fear in the air.
However, this has put me in a predicament. My aunt recently posted a status on FB asking people to pray. Since prayer really does nothing, I sent a private message letting her know that I care and I wanted her to know that I am thinking of them. Here's the message:
My First message [it was cut out]: Hey, I saw your status? Is everything okay? I hope so. love you.
What am I to say to this? It's put me in an awkward predicament. I thought about saying something like, "Oh, I don't believe that prayers really have an effect on the outcome but if there's anything I can do to help out let me know." or "Two hands working is better than a thousand clasp together in prayer so if there's anything I can do let me know!" I just keep thinking there's gotta be a nicer way to say it without starting more controversy within my family.
Or just ignore it and not respond?
Oh, these are the days of our lives.....

My parents sometimes ask me to say an 'Atheist prayer'. lol My dad is just being smart when he says it, but sometimes I'm not sure if my mom is serious or just joking as well...
