What I've learned from watching Fox News

A friend just posted this on FB and I thought I would share here.

Muslims are all terrorists, homosexuals are deviants, Planned Parenthood encourages child prostitution, Israel has never done anything wrong in history, NPR is the propaganda mouthpiece of George Soros, having an education is elitist, incarcerating a drugs addict for twenty years is the most effective form of treatment, Mr. Rogers ruined our generation because he made us feel loved, the only real Americans are evangelical Christian Americans, the poor are poor because they're lazy, we should ignore other countries unless we're invading them, everyone should own as many machine guns as possible, each state should be ruled as its own little sovereign nation, the military should never be criticized, the death penalty is an effective deterrent against crime, mankind has in no way contributed to climate change, the environment is fine and/or irrelevant, the universe was created around six thousand years ago, and I am an idiot.

Sophie, hello. Not to play devil's advocate, but you could do the exact opposite with the views of those paying attention to NPR or PBS (or what the conservatives call the "MSM", the mainstream media) - in essence, mock them taking their views to the extreme. It's true that some people think along those lines, but not all the people who prefer Fox to CNN think in that way. And calling them idiots is a bit patronizing.

I hate to self-refer but I made a post in this blog a couple of days ago on this subject: this perpetuates the myth that all atheists are left-leaning... which is blatantly not true. And which may discourage center or right-of-center atheists to come to this forum.

Hope you take this in the light spirit in which it was written. Thanks!

I'm curious what portion of that was taken from Glen Beck and which from O'reilly

@Alejandro: I'd agree with you, if it weren't for the fact that Faux reporters have said pretty much all of these things (except possibly the states being absolute sovereign nations; that one may be an exaggeration). And they've said these things, not once, but numerous times. Add to that a general hypocrisy when it comes to their stances on many issues, and you get: Faux News.

I'm not exactly a fan of any of the main US media outlets, but Fox is by far the worst. I prefer to get my news from the BBC. And John Stewart and Stephen Colbert, of course. :D
