I'm with Nancy on the fact that I assume everyone is religious. In my lifetime, I haven't ever just run into any Atheist.

Usually when I run into someone new, religion really doesn't come into mind. If it does, then delusional, brainwashed, and indoctrinated is usually what I think. Kinda feeling sorry for them comes next.

i agree with Nancy and River Otter. you have to assume that everyone you meet is religious to some degree. what saddens me is when i meet someone that is smart but who's capacity for critical thinking seems to draw right up to the water's edge of reality and then stop. the grip that religion has on people is so amazing... that an intelligent person can refuse to critically consider their religious beliefs and at the same time claim to think critically is incredible to me.
but even some atheists don't think critically all the time either. i've met atheists who believe that our consciousness survives our death, who believe in ghosts, who believe that aliens have visited Earth, who believe in all manner of paranormal silliness. it's those people that i'm most saddened by. to go that far but then believe in that kind of kooky shit....

I just assume that people I hang out with are not religious. I kind of recognize religious people from war away and I try not to get in touch with them if possible. If I found out that someone is religious he or she looses all respect from me. Specially if that someone is studying or doing sth in connection with science. Ffs, you know all the principles and you still believe there is someone up there?! I just can`t stand people like that rly. Ok, if they leave me alone and they don`t try to convince me in to sth... then ok, it`s their problem. But if they do try... then I get really mad. I don`t even try to hide it that I disapprove religion. So yeah, if someone is religious he`s just not someone I would hang out with. Ever.

well, i usually just feel sorry for the person when i find out they are religious, i guess they feel the same, ha! i consider it a luxury to be atheist, but that is another story. if it is a girl i am interested in, then i pretty much lose interest, call me shallow, but i cannot date someone who is, i just cant. if it is one of my guy friends, i pretty much lose all respect for them, on an intellectual level anyways.

Like River Otter, I assume everyone I meet is religious, so I judge them the same way I'd judge anyone else.

Hyper-religious is a different story. I realize they probably won't like me no matter what, and in this case I simply don't pursue any kind of relationship.

I get a little turned off. I don't lose all respect, but I certainly do think less of them. I can be friends with a theist, but I could never date one.
