This is gonna be the easiest one to explain. Think a mid- to fast- tempo 12-bar blues. That's what this is. I should say... it's a very liberal song, so if you're a libertarian (especially if you believe in the free market) you'll probably not agree with everything here.

Well I live in a strange country
Strange people all around me
Yes I live in a strange country
Strange people all around me
You know I love the USA
But sometimes she makes me weep

We're a free market society
Money trumps human life
Yeah we're a free market society
Money trumps human life
If the money ain't in it
We'll just leave 'em to die

(guitar solo 1)

Alcohol and tobacco
Kill thousands of people each day
Well alcohol and tobacco
Kill thousands of people each day
Marijuana ain't killed no one
But you can't use it anyway

We got a high gunshot rate
And yet we love our guns
We got a high gunshot rate
And yet we love our guns
But there ain't no connection
And you'd be a fool and a communist to make one
Thanks Bill Hicks

(guitar solo 2)

Yeah we're the most religious country
In the developed world
Well we're the most religious country
In the developed world
Yeah we got so much promise
But superstition keeps us down

Yeah the rest of the world
Has accepted evolution
Well the rest of the world
Has accepted evolution
But the US has got stupid people
Who still believe in Young Earth Creation

Oh yeah

I live in a strange country
Weird folk all around me
Yes I live in a strange country
Odd folk all around me
You know I love the USA

But sometimes

She makes me weep

Which 12 bar blues, progression are you playing?

Each number is a measure:
1 1 4 4
1 1 1 1
4 4 4 4
1 1 1 1
5 5 4 4
1 1 5(turnaround)

It's cliche... :D

Yeah it is, one of the more simpler structures for a song. How long you been playing?
Comment by Nathan Hevenstone on December 13, 2009 at 11:04pm
Well, longer then my abilities would have the listener believe. I've been playing for over 5 years, but only became serious about 2 years ago, and only really sat down and started building my lead ability about 6 months ago. I'm really sloppy, to be honest... even moreso then Jimmy Page, and have no speed.

My stuff is simple right now, but as I learn and practice I'll write more complicated stuff.

I do a lot of cliche Blues, though, because I love it. I think because it's so open and so easy to jam over. You can pretty much do whatever you want and mistakes are far and few between. It's fun. The Blues is my favorite style, to be honest. In fact, one day in the future I'm gonna do a CD of Delta Blues tunes from Robert Johnson, Bukkah White, Huddie "Leadbelly" Ledbetter, Willie Dixon, Son House, etc. Something about the Blues I'm just drawn to...

Blues were the start of rock music so it is best to understand them before going on to other styles. I play the bass guitar, I've been playing for a year. And I'm alright i guess for the time i have been playing. But i really don't care about being the best, i just want to be original and do my own thing.

Forrest, it's not being the best I'm worried about, it's just... well... being. Since I love to jam, I have to be at least okay, you know? I have a standard for myself I need to live up to. I push myself.

Jeff, it's definitely sung. I'll be recording it soon, so... yeah.

I did forget to add this is a major-key blues, not minor key. It's probably gonna be in D, though I haven't fuly decided, yet.
