Our current government system has no place for religion. No place for myth, dogma, or rhetoric. I will concede that religion did have its place in a more primitive time but that time is long since past for America and the modern world. Not until we educate the rest of this planet will we put the fairytale to rest, not until information and facts replace myth and folklore will we be free from the hate and division that religion is so famous for. Nothing we do in life today is based on myth. We do not still perform rain dances to bring rain to drought stricken areas of our planet. Why do we not look at the current religious system with the same eyes we view the rain dance or the voodoo doll? I have come to learn that human nature will always want to believe in something, why not believe in science. I can line up 1000 people that all believe that 2 plus 2 are 5 but that does not make it true. The word faith does more damage to our thinking process than any other word we have as a people. I don’t care what language you use I don’t care where you live on this planet your natural mode of operation is to not trust. Faith is the trust in something being true without checking or trusting that something will come to pass with no prior preparation. Normal behavior is to go out and get, gather, or kill something to eat when you are hungry, not to throw your hands up in the air and say god will feed me. Normal behavior is to clothe yourself when cold, not to drop to your knees and say god will keep me warm. Reason is the mechanism by which we come to decisions. Reason is the most powerful function of the brain and religion states clearly to not use reason but to substitute faith instead. Well, I ask this, When you pull your car up to a busy intersection are your windows painted black and do you have earplugs in your ears and do you just say “ god will take care of me and pull out into traffic? I do not think one single priest, bishop ,or minister on this planet would do such a thing, yet they all want you to use reason in every other part of your life (otherwise you would die from some event you caused and not be able to fill that collection basket) but not when referring to “god”. Think about that for a minute, the one little word does more to promote the primitive mindset that comes from religion. That word is faith. You cannot say “ I have faith the sun will come up tomorrow and when it does , say , see there is a god. It is sad but true that the most religious of us are the least educated.
When I see the Paul Ryan’s of the world or the governor of Wisconsin on TV I feel sorry for the poor people who support these zealots. When you see a rally or some event and the camera pans out you see all of these good folks, hard working folks, and you cant help but to wonder what the education level is of the majority of them. I would guess it is pretty low.
There has always been power and the power has always been held by the few who( believe ) that god gave them this power. Like Israel. America has been proof that this system can be changed and these ( Paul Ryan’s) of the world are the puppets of the ones who want that power back. This Paul Ryan is most likely a good man. Most likely wants the same things we all want but I feel he and others like him have gotten swept up in the religious fervor that compels men to commit atrocities against other men. Do you really think that men could burn other men or women at the stake if they were using reason? Do you think the Spanish inquisition could have lasted as long as it did if men were using reason? I was flipping through the channels the other day and came across Ken Copeland and thought I would hear what he was selling. I could not believe what I was hearing, He had a guest on and they were saying that when you feel you need to renew your faith to just go out and do it, do not think about. These guys actually said to drop everything and act on that impulse, or that enemy of god will creep in and dissuade you. They actually said that reason is the enemy of god. I wanted to scream.
When man operates under the assumption there is a god then man severely limits his ability to perform. Have you heard Bill O on fox say “ the tide comes in, the tide goes out, do you need any more proof there is a god? “ Then he said “ the moon, how did it get there, do you need any more proof there is a god? “ Good old Bill O does not have to go out and do any research to learn about the tides or the moon, he simply throws it up to god, could there be a bigger cop-out in life. The ones who should be held in the highest regard in our society are the ones who set out with little else than a desire for the truth to answer questions that are not yet answered. The ones who promote hate, division and myth should be tagged for what they really are, ignorant.
Looking back through history it would seem that there are a few societies that have completely abandoned their original belief system. The Greeks, for example, we insert the word mythology now when referring to the ancient Greeks. The new belief system is no better but at least there is proof that at about 2 to 3 thousand years into a societies existence radical changes have taken place. The biggest problem with this is that even though the pen is mightier than the sword the sword still converts more people from one crazy thought process to another. The Aztecs, they had a crazy belief system, now they are catholic, that’s even crazier…
