My parents baptised me
Before I was a tod.
They brought me to church
When I knew not of God.

I think their tactic worked
I was living in a child's dream
Walking in a fog
Where beauty coexists with pain.

I was never good enough
My sins were so great.
I feared that God would hate me
When I was only eight.

My parents programed me well.
They taught me to believe
That the Bible is not literal,
At least not all you read.

I was walking in a fog
The dream seemed never to end
But as all people know,
All thing come to an end.

It took me so long to wake up
I must be a stupid kid.
But at least I did wake up.
My mother never did.

'The Bible is not all literal.'
That is always their defense.
But as I grew older
Things did not make sense!

We picked apart the Bible
to make our God fit.
Yet the more that we cut out
The less we could get.

Eventually I found myself
Looking upon a book
With all the pages ripped up
And to ignore is all it took.

Yet my life's bad habit
Is that I cannot ignore.
And Plain as day in front of me
Was a Bible destroyed to the core.

What my family still
doesn't seem to get
is that when you pick and choose
You making a danger bet.

Mom said it isn't literal,
It's not history, Beth
But I said, "Mom! This is Madness!
There's only one page left!"

*By the way, Beth is just a fictional character.*

BTW... My family found a copy of this poem I wrote [I wrote it out before putting it on the web]. And my fam just said that "we feel sorry for you that you can't understand" or something like that. :P
Truly, I think they're the ones who don't understand. They can't just decide what's "true" and what's not in that book. All the books in the bible are full of fantastical stories, but to dismiss the bad ones because they "don't like them." - If you ask me, fundies are more honest than people that do that!
